Default ISC reset - the controversy continues

I have been communicating with a service advisor at the local Lexus dealer about the need to have the ISC reset if the battery is disconnected. I told him about the numerous posts on this and other Lexus sites stating that the reset procedure needs to be done. I referred him to Lexus TSB No. EG010-05 which states the same thing. He spoke with their lead technician about it. The technician says they don't do it, because the vehicles have an "adaptive reset" function and the TSB procedure is not necessary. Who's right?

Did you ask them why would they come up with this TSB if it was unnecessary?

Hmm..let's see...who's right...

Toyota/Lexus engineers, or some jackass at the dealership....

I don't think Toyota puts TSBs out for kicks and giggles.

May be time to try another tech/service adviser or even a different Lexus dealership?

I'll be trying the "owner's" method tomorrow. Apparently you do not need to take into a dealer but can do the "reset" yourself.

Tell your dealership that their 'lead technician' needs to be demoted..

My 06 Rx400h had 27mpg after the ISC reset two week ago, before it was 24 mpg, I am very happy with it, of course if it can be 31 mpg would be better!

I can't think of anyone that hasn't done the ISC reset and ended up with better mileage, and yet the original post of this thread is about a technician at the dealership who knows nothing of it, and says it doesn't need to be done.

Isn't it wonderful how, with the advent of the internet, a lot of car enthusiasts are more knowlegeable than a factory certified technician.

I just had my 2006 RX400H serviced at the dealer and they had no idea of this process so I sent them the TSB and although they said they had not done it before they went ahead and did it at no charge.

More importantly I will let you know the results once I get it back and drive it a bit. I am getting around 19-20mph in San Francisco Bay Area on the Hills before the reset.

They also will be inflating the tires from 34-36 PSI to improve gas mileage as the Door Jam says 30PSI which they said is too low for the Hybrid's extra weight.

Got the car back and gas mileage per the computer jumped to 28.6mpg on a 20 mile drive. Never broke 21 mpg prior. To be fair in addition to the ISC was reset, the battery was replaced (12V), and the tires were inflated to 36PSI. Regardless I am much happier with the higher MPG and hope this helps other people with the controversy.

Bring the TSB ISC Reset to you dealer and have them do it if your taking it in for service.

I found this at USA walmart, it will help keeping the computer setting, if you need to disconnect your battery.

OK where exactly can I find how to do this myself on my 2008? I think it might be worth a try, looks like it does not hurt anything.
