2010 LS460L vs. 2008 LS600h - Which Would You Choose
#17
LS600hL HP=438, Weight=5360, 0-60=5.4
LS460L HP=380, Weight=4460, 0-60=5.4
0-60 times for both vary by well over a second, depending on the source.
So it would seem that the additional 58 HP is roughly offset by the 900 pounds of additional weight and that the acceleration is about the same.
As I'd said, mileage is slightly better, and emissions are much better on the LS600hL.
Did I also mention the tiny trunk? It hasn't been an issue for me, but for some it may.
So, if it's neither the power nor the mileage, what's the attraction of the LS600hL? For me, here in Maine, the decider was the AWD, not available on the LS460 at the time.

looking at 0-60 on a car of this size and weight is quite silly. when it comes to v8/v12 power, it's more about highway speed pickup. when taking the ls460l and ls600hl from 75mph to 120mph and it will become very obvious how much better the 600hl is. it's completely effortless and thus maintain the high level of smoothness

Ok, you're right. It IS silly.
Having said that, though, (on very rare occasion), I'm guilty of having enjoyed a red light "race" with a BMW, Audi, or some such that's pulled into the wrong lane on my right and expects to zip ahead of me and cut me off. Immature? You bet. Aren't most men?
The (relatively) silent spurt from 30-70 though is especially thrilling, especially so with the lack of any downshifts...
I haven't had it up that fast yet, but in a few weeks on my cross country drive, somewhere in CA, AZ or NM, I might just try it.........whoosh

i still remember back in the days when i had a tl-s and talked to someone with the same car. from freeway onramp to 70mph against a gs400 it was dead on, but after that, no matter how he tried, the gs400 completely destroyed him.
and the fact that you can do 30-70 so effortless that's another proof already, you can't do that as easily in the ls460 without the engine working harder.
just make sure you get your v1 ready before pushing the car. put it in sport mode and off you go!
