Tough decision between these two as an outsider with no 460 experience.
In your opinion would you favor one over ther other for any significant reason?
The coolness of the 2010 cosmetic upgrades versus the higher HP hybrid platform...
Is there any glaring reason to stay away from the 600?

If the 2010 460L has low option, I will choose the 08 LS600hL because LS600hLs are always fully loaded, so they lead to better ride feelings. The reason to stay away from 600hLs is about the electric motors because they interchange with the petrol engines very regularly which can easily cause breakdown.

I agree, if it is for features, I'd get the 600hL. As noted above, they always seem loaded and all I have seen have rear entertainment system which would be a big plus for me with two kids. I actually like the front and rear bumpers as well as the tailights better on the pre-2010 models but that is just me. What I like about the 2010 is that it has the newer Nav system and will likely have less miles and a longer warranty unless the 2008 is a CPO.

Is AWD important to you(it was critical to me)? If so, the LS600hL is your choice.
Also, you should expect slightly better mileage (~10%) with the hybrid.
Less important factors:
CVT transmission is less complicated and very smooth, no shifting points (did you know that the LS600hL has no reverse gear?).
I still get a kick out of stealth mode.
Brakes will last much longer (I have 50K miles, and brakes are still at over 50% life.)

2010 LS460L hands down. The 600 is exclusive but the L is no joke and is newer. The first 2 years of the LS had the most issues (07 more than 08)

The 08 600 would HAVE to be under CPO warranty or else forget it.
I dont think the 2010 LS is that different, I'd prefer to have the more prestigious 600. Plus no one can tell an 08 600 apart from an 2011 600

ls600hl doesn't always come loaded. most of them come in the "lighter" package with everything except the exec package, msrp back in 08 for around 115k. the exec package pushed it up to 120k.
without knowing the options on the 2010 lwb you are looking at, it's hard to compare. like others said, if it's missing most options, then it's not really worth it, not to mention i am not a fan of the facelift at all to begin with. there are features on the 600hl that you can't even get it in the 460l (led headlights, cvt, more power, etc...), and from what i have heard, there are no particular problems on the 600hl making you avoiding the car

These are great comments, and I agree with the conclusions many have brought to the table.
Honestly I'm leaning towards the 600.
I don't recall seeing many horror stories about them from the board's 600 owners in terms of service, but going the CPO route would be something worth paying a slight premium for.
The CVT is something I haven't experienced, I imagine it's pretty trick. Don't care about the executive seating package, but I do want the lighter full-option packages that most 600s came with.
Just a tough choice.
Is the power difference even worth talking about? Coming from an LS430 it's not like power is a first-draw for these cars anyway, I save the hot-footing around for the NSX, the Lexus I've had at wide-open throttle maybe ten times in five years lol...
