No major surprises, yet I wasn't expecting any......
Anyone else notice the different rear bumpers ???
It seems the GS450 Hybrid will not have exhaust diffuser tips in the rear !!!!!
(I saw this on the prototypes months ago)
Mufflers have standard turn down tips.

Afraid so. Is this what they really meant ... In addition, the rear bumper of the GS 450h covers the exhaust pipe apertures?

Thank god they opted for fuel efficiency instead of hp increase, it was about time! That's a good thing.
Bad thing is that this sounds more like a mid facelift drivetrain update that current 3GS450h never had. Those batteries really need to be replaced with lithium ones, its been ten years now and batteries Toyota uses didn't evolve much.
Other possible good thing is that F-Sport will indeed carry supercharger as GS450h for sure is not a V8 replacement.
BTW current 450h Euro spec has better mileage than US spec due to more relaxed gearing which translates into slower 0-60 time as well. I guess they took a note from there for a new one.

Heavier and slower? What happened to progress? I thought for sure it was going to beat the old model in every single way. This is your premium brand Toyota and it is not an entry-level car. Give it Li-ion batteries already FFS. All your competitors have them, not to mention your own Prius+ and Prius Plug-in of the mainstream brand. Very disappointing specs. I expected a lot better.
One can only hope a mid-cycle upgrade to the powertrain is in the pipeline...

Efficiency makes me happy with a car labeled hybrid, I don't look for anything else but I was hoping for at least 34combined mpg so I have to admit they did not exceed my expectations. That being said, I do believe the mid-model refresh will yield light weight, more hp and better efficiency so I might wait until then to get a GSh, or not.

i wonder what the reason is. i thought everything on technology pointed towards lighter hybrid. given that 3gs350 is actually heavier than 4gs350, that means the new hybrid system is quite a bit heavier???!!!
my guess is lexus now goes with efficiency in lexus hybrid lineup as well, instead of performance? maybe the 450h is not going to be as much fun. it's more about saving gas

Lexus seems to have a 3 pronged strategy:
Regular models i.e. GS350 - Caters to traditional Lexus customers with great ride, comfort, quietness, luxury and refinement
Hybrid models i.e. GS450h - Caters to Eco-conscious buyers with higher mpgs, lower emissions and sustainable interior materials
Sport models i.e. GS-F Sport - Caters to enthusiasts and people looking for performance. Hopefully it will mean a supercharged V6 for the GS.
