I would like to think that re-programming or tweaking of the cpu would allow the EV mode to operate at a higher speed. From all I've read, it has a lot to do with the type and size of the batteries that dictate the range and speed the EV can operate. One of the reasons why the plug-ins use different batteries (both all electric and plug-ins)? Perhaps on the next evolution of Lexus hybrid or plug-in's.

I've noticed that the EV kicks in at higher speeds (up to 40 mph) when I lift my foot off the gas so it's coasting and off the ICE. Or the EV stays on in stop and go traffic when I gently accelerate.

Lex300h, you are correct, the speed may drop a bit but there is a point where you can get the car to maintain its speed without having the gas engine go on. I am now driving exclusively in Sport mode and find it easier, perhaps, to do this in this mode.

I am about 450 miles into my current tank and have averaged just under 45mpg, driven entirely in the Sport mode.
The car is certainly a lot more fun to drive in this mode. FWIW, anytime the car is in EV mode (meaning the ICE is off), I feather the gas pedal.

I live in FL and now have 1600 miles on my 300H Ultra, so warm weather may help. In short less than 5 mile trips aroudn town I get between 40 and 42. Have not had it out for an extended highway ride as yet but on one 40 mile run down US41 in the evening which is a 45 mph speed limit and a few stoplights I actually got 46 mph. Have always been averaging over 40 but then I am a very conservative driver with no jack-rabbit moves.

I must say that I am disappointed by my average mpg. I'm still on my first tank, having driven 425 miles, and I'm averaging 34 mpg. From what people are saying, there is no gain in mpg after breaking in the engine, and after the first 100 miles, I have really been trying to drive the car to maximize mpg. I live in Seattle, and it is true that it is colder here than California or Florida, but certainly not colder than Maryland. I have heard that gas mixtures used in the winter can adversely affect mpg, but, I'm not so sure that my car is just not as efficient as others.
Hopefully things may improve with my first fill-up, which most likely will take place in a week or so. One thing I have learned which I never really noticed before, sad to say, is that Seattle is loaded with hills with the terrain changing constantly!
