I am sharing my mileage experience with others for last 1600 miles, i drove over 1000 miles on hwy. Overall 49.20 gallons filled with 1606 miles yielding ~33mpg. this was under really cold temperature (less than 30F and snow conditions).
yesterday however temprarture went up 20 degrees and I could see real better mileage my yesterdays trip yielded over 42mpg in average.
there are three things that will definitely help getting better mileage.
1. Warm temperature
2. Engine breaks in at 1000 miles.
3. Driving habit (aka heavy foot)
good luck all, i am sure most people will report better mpg during summer.

And don't forget that those of us in colder climates make our cars work harder and we get less efficient winter gas as well. Comparisons to those in Southern US are meaningless over the next few months. 35mpg is probably pretty good.
Consider how your old car changed in winter - my old car would go from 10L/100km to 11~12L/100km ... being at 6.5L/100km in the winter with the 300h is really pleasing me!

Modern cars really don't have much if any break in period although many seem to report the FE increases in time. I have never experienced this with any of the hybrids I have owned. My 300h is the same - I am getting great fuel efficiency and don't expect it to change much.
Good or better FE comes with adjusting your driving technique to a 'hybrid' style , which means driving the vehicle a bit differently from a regular car. Driving a hybrid like a regular car gets you about 20% FE over a similar non-hybrid vehicle. The ES350 is rated to get about 25-26 mpg. Twenty percent more is about 32. Several members have reported getting FE ini the low 30's which is about right for a new hybrid driver.
In '06, My wife and I got a Prius. When she drove it, she always averaged in the mid to upper 30's. When I drove it, I always got in the high 50's.
There are numerous articles on the internet about 'hypermiling' for anyone interested in improving their fuel efficiency.

Here is my ES 300h gas mileage update. Yesterday I gassed up for the first time since taking delivery on 1/8/13. I had 477 miles on the odometer, the fuel gauge was between empty and 1/4 tank. The car reported 36.5 mpg. Here in GA the mornings have been cold so the engine runs a bit to get the heat going so I attribute the less than advertised mpg to the cold. I also noticed that with my 2010 HS 250h in the winter. The car is wonderful and shows the Lexus relentless pursuit of perfection.

I've been using http://www.fuelly.com/dashboard/ . It's a free droid and apple app. Gives a screen like the one below and is easy to use. It's reflecting the winter use now. Normally in the summer my average is a tick above 30mpg.

[QUOTE=es300h;
there are three things that will definitely help getting better mileage.
1. Warm temperature
2. Engine breaks in at 1000 miles.
3. Driving habit (aka heavy foot)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Warm temperature ...........................YES it has a big effect on MPG
2. Engine breaks in at 1000 miles...........NO..effect at all...My best MPG was in first 1,000miles
3. Driving habit (aka heavy foot).......YES it has the MOST effect on MPG
My ES300h milage update............
I now have 2,437miles
For the first 524 mis. I avgd...40.3 MPG...........For the first 1,000 mis. I avgd...40.1 MPG
For the 2,437 mis...my avg. has come Down to 38.6 MPG...Because of the COLD weather.
My current MPG is 34.5 ....@ the cold Temps. of 15 to 25 degs.
The 40 deg. you see is in my garage.

I drove home in my new es 300h 1/10/2013. filled up my first tank of gas after driving about 575 miles on that tank. Computer average said 37.3 MPG. Since then I've just gone past 1000 miles and now that I've learned how to drive the "Hybrid" way, the computer says I'm averaging 40.3 MPG. mostly hwy miles and I live in So Cal so the temps are usually in the 60s in the wintertime. Love the car and I actually look forward to my commute time now!
