Default Rx400h stationary with exhaust under water

Hello there,

When my brother-in-law launches our boat with his Range Rover the exhaust is often submerged under water, which is fine as long as the engine is still ticking over.

My question is...what will happen if I use my 400h to do the same job?...the engine will have cut out?!?!?! When I try and pull the trailer/boat out of the water the engine will undoubtedly want to kick-in to help, but surely it will not be able to start if the exhaust is submerged? Will the electric motors still pull me out on their own? or will the dashboard light up like a Christmas tree and leave me stranded in a lake?

Does anyone have any experience of RX400h's and boat launching?

Cheers in advance

Ben

i don't believe water can clog your exhaust so it doesn't matter. you're engine should run and start from cold. it's not like you've got a banana in your tailpipe. the exhaust should simply bubble up thru the water and you won't worry about back pressure. just my opinion. but considering every single person who launches a boat probably deals with this at some time or another, and i've never heard of this type of failure, it's usually brakes, i'd think you're safe.

They debunked the banana in the tailpipe myth anyway on Mythbusters.

Cheers guys.

So we reckon that the engine will be able to fire into life even when the exhaust is under water....there is only one way to find out!

I know the vehicle works just fine in wet weather (rain, snow etc.), but I don't know if I'd want my expensive ELECTRIC rear differential submerged.

After backing up put the engine in B or engine braking and the engine will stay on and not turn off.

Also Neutral will keep the engine in its current state.
