Question Where is the overall MPG indicator for 2013 Rx?

On my 2013 Rx 450h the fuel consumption chart has an Update button which is apparently new (similar scrren from a 2012 Rx). Clicking Update causes the current average mpg to be posted to the chart as a new bar. The bars on the chart represent whatever interval you choose (daily, weekly, every refuel, vacation, etc). So each time I click Update it resets the current average mpg to zero and begins calculating from that point.

There are 2 mpg screens in the Multi-Information Display area in the center of the dash. As you go thru the various screens there are 2 MPG displays; one that says "After Refueling" and another that says "Average." What I did not realize until I spoke with my dealer Tech Specialist is that the Average MPG number you see in the Multi-Information DIsplay is tied to the Update button. So whenever you Update the fuel consumption data it resets the Average MPG counter to zero. What's the big deal? Apparently there is now no "average mpg since you bought the vehicle" display. Is that true? What the TS told me appears to ring true. I did not Update after refueling this last time and the Average MPG seems to be tracking as I would expect, albeit only since the previous refuel.

I'll post photos of the various displays if folks are confused.

Not sure if this is a hybrid or a general Rx issue...Moderators?

Right. I'm not aware of a "since you bought it" option. My '06 RX400h was similar in that if I reset, well, it reset the stats -- no different than the way the physical trip reset button does. I figured that out soon after I purchased my '06, so never reset the stats again so that it kept more of a "lifetime MPG" display for me over the next 7 years.

Right now, I'm doing the same thing in my 2013, and not resetting it. ...but I could. Jim has been referencing the last few months in some posts use of an Android app called Fuelly (or somethig like that) that keeps track of MPG and such. That interested me, but I'm an iPhone kinda guy, so no luck using that same app. I started using an iOS app before I took delivery of my 2013 called Road Trip, that I suspect is similar. With it, I can see my "life to date" or whatever I want on MPG, fuel costs, etc... I can graph it, download it to a spreadsheet, and more. I put in 2 or 3 basic bits of info when I fill up my tank, the app uses the GPS on the phone to mark where I am at the time, and with that info safely on my Phone and automatically backed up to Dropbox, I can reset my truck's display to my heart's content if I want. A perfect combination for me.

Bert, I understand your point. In my 2008 Rx 400h there was an average mpg that I could reset but never did. The display would hit some wierd number of miles like 6500 then restart at 0 but the mpg was calculated as if the miles had not reset.

So on your 2013 you don't go into the Past History screen (or whatever its called) and hit Update? You just have one 3D column on the chart?

The Average MPG display screen on the dash can be reset 2 ways it seems: either by pressing the steering wheel button or by clicking Update on the Past History screen (Nav). Seems like the 2 functions should not be connected.

Right, I have only a 2-D chart, but it sounds like there is something new for me to play with. I ruled out doing much of anything there given my history with the RX400h, but your post and my use of my fuel/MPG app that gives me even more info, should be enough to break me away from my conservative ways. TU

I suspect the reason the MPG can be seen and reset in two places, is because Nav is an option. For those without it, they still have the dash display. For us with Nav, we get a choice where to see the stat and reset it. Isn't that wonderful? Ahahahah
