As im sure most of you are aware, there are many new SUV's coming out with a hybrid drivetrain now, the most recent one being the Range Rover / Range Rover Sport.
Obviously there is no match in terms of refinement, the RX WILL win every time being a petrol and electric motor combination whereas the RR will be a diesel and electric motor combination.
FIGURES:
HP - 335
MPG - 44.1 UK
0-60mph - 6.7s
emissions - 169g/km
Now those numbers are fairly close to the RXh. 36hp more, 0.7mpg less but quicker to 60mph by a second. However, emissions are greater by 21g/km. Doesnt sound like much but puts the RR in a higher tax bracket than the 450h in the UK.
So my main worry is, will Lexus be beaten at its own game? or should we be anticipating a 340bhp RX450h (new generation in 2 years time) with the drivetrain from the new GS? That would be seriously impressive and may even hit 60mph in 6-6.5s!

Don't know about other markets but here in Oz the RR and RRS are in different price brackets from the RX. A base model RR Sport is about the same as a fully loaded RX450h sport luxury, while the full size Range Rover is way higher again.
Added to that the fact that Lexuses (Lexi?) don't break down...

Don't believe for one moment that Toyota/Lexus will be standing still. Look for better and larger capacity battery technology and plug-in charging for extended ranges on electric only power. I also am looking forward to them to start taking some of their super capacitor technology they are using for their Le Mans race vehicles to replace the need for heavy batteries.

Besides, some of us are still around who remember the horror days of British automotive quality.
