Possible recall on 400h
This is the present status officially...
2008 RX400H
Safety Recall DLF (D2F - Interim) - Certain 2006 through 2008 Model Year RX 400H Vehicles Intelligent Power Module (IPM) Replacement
At the present time, Lexus is developing the remedy for this safety recall. Lexus will notify owners of covered vehicles by first class mail. Please continue to check this site for additional information.
What is the Condition? Within the vehicle, inside the inverter assembly is an Intelligent Power Module (IPM) which contains a control board equipped with transistors. The solder underneath these transistors could degrade and eventually cause damage to them, illuminating various warning lights on the instrument panel. In most cases, the vehicle will enter a fail-safe mode, resulting in reduced motive power in which the vehicle can still be driven for short distances. In limited instances, the fuse of the power supply circuit could blow, causing the hybrid system to shut down and resulting in the vehicle stopping while being driven.

Thanks for the heads up. I was write about to post a question about the where the recalled component lies, but you answered it for me. I'll be sure to get this inspected by Lexus/Toyota as soon as they issue the recall. My 2001 VW Golf TDI had a faulty solder in relay 109, which supplies power to the ECM/ECU. When the connections got hot, the solder would loose contact and my car shut off twice before I replaced the relay. Luckily, my TDI has a manual transmission so I just pushed the clutch in and coasted to the side of the road. This is not an experience I'd like to have with the Rx's CVT.

One question for the VIN experts: does anyone know if some digits are different depending on the market the car was built for?
I mean, the VIN of my European RX is JTJHW31U2028625xx, and the car was registered in Sep 08.
Now, according to the PDF in the link above, one of the affected "VIS" ranges is 82850001-82867597.
Since the VIS section of my VIN is 028625xx, I suspect that it falls in such range, and the first digit is a 0 instead of an 8 just because of the different market.
Does anyone have an idea if that is the case?
My local dealer was not even aware of this recall yet, but I can't see why the IPM of European cars should be different from the American...

I just took my 400H in this week for oil change and the service writers screen popped red instead of the normal green indicating a recall vehicle. He checked and said no parts or direction yet from Lexus and as soon as he had information the dealer will contact me and we can make arrangements for you to get it fixed. That was Monday this week.

I am not affected. "The vehicles within the above VIN range which received a replacement of the inverter
assembly in the 2011 recall (11 V-342) are not involved in this recall."
