LS460 vs Escalade Hybrid
Buddy of mine is thinking about trading in his LS for Escalade hybrid.
He said escalade hybrid gets about the same mpg as LS so why not go big.
I told it's all up to him because I personally like bigger cars as well but I would like to hear other members' opinion also. I know LS is going to be more reliable than GM.

Indeed, though there is still that gas mileage issue. Our IS loaner has been a nice little break for a few days while the LX is at the dealer.
On a side note, I can't figure out the appeal of the Escalade: couldn't at first when it was just a rebadged Suburban (with the ugliest, cheapest interior), couldn't after the revamp, and even the 2015, as nice as parts of it look, doesn't do it for me. There is something about it that just screams "tacky", somehow. And for the record, I am not a Cadillac hater at all, not even remotely.

IMO escalade are nice SUV to look at on the road because of it styling but the quality is so poor. We used to own a 08 escalade plantium model and at 30k the starter die. Then at 40k the drive belt snapped and causing a bunch of other problem. It was a money pit for us so never again I would go with GM.

I considered getting a Platinum Escalade, but after driving it i was disappointed by the lack of niceties that come standard on an LS (auto up/down windows come to mind) and the cheap components. There have been a known problem with flimsy trim pieces/door handles etc. as well. When he drives the Escalade, he will be disappointed at all the road noise as well.
Also, the engine sounds nice, but this vehicle is so large it's sluggish and handles unsteadily like it's "on its toes", heck the horsepower is virtually the same and this thing weighs a LOT more than the LS!
Overall, I was surprised and slightly unhappy with what this could offer me, even as the top model!

If you want one in ADDITION to your LS go for it not a bad SUV to have though the hybrid mark up you will have to drive a considerable amount of more miles. The ONE and ONLY reason I would switch is if I consistently needed to carry at least 4-7 people with me plus extra cargo space and AWD. Along with of course like I said a long commite to make up for the hybrid mark up. If you want something comparable to the LS the new range rover would be the best in my opinion SUV wise

Looks like Cadillac doesn't make a 2014 escalade hybrid so your buddy will be looking at used ones. Their system horsepower was 373 with 0-60 times in the mid 9 second range. Combine that with the surprisingly poor noise, vibration and harshness characteristics of that GM platform. Drive one on a rough road and you would see. There is a new platform for the 2015's that is supposed to be a big improvement.
If your buddy really wants one and has the money, he should get one. Those big GM suv owners are a pretty loyal bunch.

We should also mention the lost legroom/space from the hybrid batteries which make the third row laughable.
Other than that, the looks are great with this SUV.
