Idk if anyone has noticed, but lexus.com has updated the website with details, full gallery, and specs for the 2016 ES. Build tool still only shows the 2015 though...
Biggest thing is the Features section. Shows details for the new Lexus Safety System+ package that is only $500. Package includes: Pre-Collision System* with Pedestrian Detection*, high-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control™*, Lane Departure Alert* with Steering Assist* and intelligent high-beam headlamps.*
Defintely a good deal for all of this! It use to be $1500 just for PCS/Dynamic cruise control, and an additional $1015 for LDA/intelligent high-beams on the 2015.

From where are you getting the $500 price for that complete safety package? I'm skeptical.

When Lexus released info about the 2016 RX, they announced that they will be making safety features cheaper so that more people get them. It's suppose to be on MY2016+ cars.

Thanks. I wonder if you will be able to buy the safety package as a stand-alone package or whether it will only be available in combination with other higher-priced options. While I can believe that Lexus is reducing the price of safety features, it is hard to imagine the extent of that price reduction. At $500, that package will have a cost of a little less than what had been the cost of just the blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.
The Safety System Plus package being only $500 is a new Toyota/Lexus initiative. That option will be available at that price on every vehicle, to help make those safety systems mainstream.
For $500 I'd get it for sure. What remains to be seen is whether cars will be shipped with it to dealer lot inventory.
I think the refreshed ES looks great, looks much more upscale inside. I look forward to seeing one in person.
I dunno, with the pics Ive seen there arent too many changes I can see inside compared to the 15 (maybe in person there are more)
Mostly I see the padded "short" pieces on the outer edges of the center console, the shifter boot, the new steering wheel and the buttons on the side of the remote controller.
Other than those, its the different colors and trim combinations, which BTW Im not overly impressed with based on the pics on their site. Maybe flaxen looks better in person, but the pics they show of it just arent nice looking to me. I do like the brown dashboard and upper door panel pieces, but the flaxen itself is not appealing to me.
Also not a fan of the honey bamboo, that might be because its only "allowed" with the light color interiors....I dont think it contrasts enough to make it look good.
Absolutely love this color combination. My 2010 Acura RL had a brown dash which I loved. A black dash shows to much dust. The brown wood in the center console is also a classy look.

I guess the US is getting wood for the center console on the 2016. It was only available in Asia on the older version. That's about the only real plus I see, over my 2013.

At a MSRP of $500, the safety system package seems like it would be hard to pass up. That only amounts to pennies per day during the typical period of vehicle ownership.
Further, when the cost of a similar array of safety features has been several thousand dollars on the pre-2016 ES models, those safety features have returned very little of their initial cost at trade-in or re-sale time. I suspect that, at a cost of $500 on the 2016 ES, much of that $500 will come back to the vehicle owner at trade-in or re-sale time. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't ultimately turn out to be the case that used vehicles without the safety feature package end up commanding much lower prices than vehicles with the safety package, in much the same way that, today, ES vehicles without a navigation system bring much lower prices than used ES vehicles with a navigation system.
I'd definitely would get the safety package for that price. Since this seems the direction that Toyota/Lexus taking, I would think most if not all of the luxury and ultra package vehicles would have this option.
When trying to configure the car, if I select the safety package, it deletes the luxury package, but I can't see where the safety part is incorporated into the luxury package. I must be missing something.
