Is there any downside like reduced MPG or additional stress on transmission by using the S sport mode over the reg mode in everyday driving. I normally use the reg mode but I do like the extra ump the sport gives. The S+ mode seems to be a little stiff for me. Any ideas or links?

You'll get slightly reduced mileage due to the throttle mapping, otherwise no impact. If MPG isn't important to you then drive it in whatever mode you want. Now, if we could just get the car to default to sport instead of normal...

Mileage is so subjective that you won't get a consistent answer there as most who use Sport mode are driving much more aggressively than when in Normal or Eco.

I'm in Sport or Sport+ 95% of the time.

I wonder if we would get better milage.
Sport mode also increases the inverter voltage. So it's using more electric propulsion, this means less gas is needed to run the ICE. It's amazing how fast it leaves the line even at 1/4 throttle.

+1 on the acceleration off the line. For a car that weights 2 tons, the combination of acceleration & overall gas mileage that the car delivers is amazing.

Regarding Sport/S+ mode and gas mileage, I honestly don't think it makes that big of an impact. Probably 1-2 mpg at best.

Keep in mind that while Sport/S+ certainly delivers more power, I've also noticed that Sport/Sport+ keeps the ICE on for longer too. For example, if you're cruising at 35 mph and you have Sport/Sport+ mode on, the ECU will keep the engine running for power or to charge the battery.

As soon as I flip it over to ECO mode, the engine will shut off.. if the battery is close to full and I maintain that 35 mph speed.

I'm honestly someone who is constantly switching between modes depending on traffic, my driving style, and distance to commute. I haven't ran an entire tank on just one mode to compare.. and I don't think that I want to because I find ECO mode to be too slow and boring sometimes :P It's my first choice for stop & go traffic though!

I have tried the econ mileage on the road and I get around 20 MPH/gal running around 80 MPH. In city driv9ing I get around 18 MPH. If I go to the S plus it then is around 16-17 mpg.


It states 29 MPG on the road in econ. No way does it hit these numbers.

The upper 20's is very easy to get in the hybrid model. On the hybrid, it's almost impossible to get below 20 mpg unless you'e tracking the car.

So old thread here but figured I would bump it up to the top. I am planning on doing my first road trip on Saturday with Lexi. I will even get over 60 mph for an extended time period. I was going to hit the highway in Sport+ mode since I rarely drive in it and do some 50 mph to zoom pulls (depending on traffic). So far, on my one documented fill-up (meaning I tracked my mileage and gallons used), I averaged 28.4 mpg. The computer said 29.8, so I was a little disappointed it was off by more than 1 mpg. We will see what it will track on the Highway trip. Hope to average around 75 mph on the highway to get a good reading. Until Saturday though, I am driving the other car right now, so she has been sitting since last Saturday

The car shines on the highway. The only thing I can think of as a negative driving long distance in sport+ is the suspension being stiffer.

P.s.
The most fun you can have with the car is in sport+ in manual in a merge or somewhere you can get the car to about 4k in a lower gear and be able to gas it HARD.

Lexi performed even better than expected on my 750 mile trip to Charleston and back to Orlando. Mostly driving on I-95. I did fool around a little in Sport+ mode closer to Charleston once we exited I-95. Also hit 105 mph in it at the very end coming home over a long bridge. Figured no cops can hide there as they were out in full force yesterday it seemed. I really enjoy driving the 450h more than I thought I would. The acceleration is there when you need it. The transmission downshift is hard to explain if you have not driven one. It hits the rpm mark and stays there while the car accelerates faster and faster. Never seen anything like it. Oh yeah, on the way back, mpg per the computer was 37.2. If I subtract my normal 1.5 mpg, it was probably closer to 35.7 mpg for the trip back. Have about 150 estimated miles left after going 400 on last fill-up. Now back to my boring 18 mile daily commute to work and back. Would love to take this car to some mountain roads. One day.....

Last weekend took mine to our cabin and back. Mostly highway but some mountain roads. Kept it on Eco on highway. S+ on backroads. 34.5 mpg average. So far commuting I'm only getting 25

Commuting mileage definitely will make the mpg vary, all depends on how many lights you hit, how full the battery is when you hit them, and how long you have to sit there with the engine running. On a plus note, my 2013 has hit the 7/8 full battery level when I bother to check. I swear, normally it topped out at 6/8. Not complaining, but I live in flat Florida, so it is not like I am going down any major hills. Nice surprise though as it seems my hybrid battery is doing ok.

sounds normal to get 20-ish mpg for none hybrid vehicle weighing 4000lbs? hot day commuting situation with AC blasting will definitely reduce further down the EPA rating as well as shorter distance travel [less than 10 miles].
