How long for my 2010 RX hybrid "life expectance"
#31
One would blow itself to bits if operated for more than a few minutes continuously, the other, say, 20 years.

Still Going Strong
I have a 2010 Lexus RX450h. My previous job required a 100 mile per day commute, so I racked up miles. We’ve also taken a number of long distance road trips. I’m very conscientious about maintenance and servicing. My car has 207,000 miles and was just serviced & inspected. Car looks great! No issues & running strong! I’m hoping to get 300,000 … we’ll see. Love this car & will definitely buy another new one when the time comes.

Devils advocate here for a sec, but what does that have to do with long term reliability? The hybrid setup does not really completely remove start motors, it just transfers that traditional job to another integrated unit.
Same thing with brakes, although your mechanical brakes are doing less work, some other system is picking up the slack. Its one thing to completely remove an item, such an starter motor since there is no IC, but its another thing to redistribute tasks to other components

Older Hybrid
Well, I must be living on borrowed time. Own a 2011 450h. with 163000 miles on no major mechanical problems. Hybrid battery still operating at full capacity getting 28 MPG on freeway driving.
Anyone out there with any hybrid longevity stories/short comings. Just getting ready for something to go kerplunk and become cost prohibitive to repair. Refurbished battery pack runs $3600 here in So California. With the prices of used 450h's so high it might be worth the cost of a new battery and ride out the crazy price increases.CVT might be another issue.
What's your feeling.

The CVT on the RX450h does not pose as a long term reliability issue, simply because it is not a belt drive CVT. The CVT transmision on the RX450h is all gears, so there is no chance of a belt failing, like what you can expect with a conventional CVT.
At some point you might want to just change out the fluid in the transmission (Toyota WS fluid) but that's about all the maintenance you need to do for this transmission.

Hi there,
I hope you're fine.
Just to share my experience - RX450H, 2012, 161K KM. HV Battery was replaced in August 2022 due malfunction => so after 10 years and 161K kms. The car was driven in Italy and moved to CZ last year. Lexus in 10/2021 confirm HV battery still OK and prolong support for last year (1 year or 15K km - and I drove 30K km / year).
Another high expense was in 10/2021 - front air shocks replace (both of them).
Now car is perfect from HV point of view but surprised what happened to car in Italy that shocks and battery was in malfunction status somehow.

2010 RX450h here. Bought with 60K in 2016, now at 120K.
Had a near-catastrophe a month ago. Some of these 3.5L V6 engines had RUBBER lines carrying hot engine oil at pressure a short distance from the block to an oil cooler. So, let's see, if an oil line fails you lose ALL your oil in a matter of minutes and then the engine turns into scrap a few minutes after that. We were lucky; our rubber lines failed close to home and after parking it in our driveway I had it towed to a nearby repair shop.
These engines have an excellent reputation for reliability and probably 99% of them now have steel oil lines. If your engine doesn't, don't walk, RUN to the shop and get the rubber lines replaced ASAP. Ticking time bomb otherwise.
