Default ES300h ABS Actuator Failure

My 2013 ES300h was diagnosed with a ABS Actuator failure. The car has just over 52,000 miles and was 3 years old in February this year. The dealer told the repair is around $5000 and my car is no longer under warranty. They are approaching Lexus to see if they will do a good will repair. Has anyone else had the same failure and if so was it warranted? If not how much did this repair cost?

If you don't get a positive response from Lexus, since you are out of warranty, you might consider checking with a Toyota dealership and see what they would charge. Also a good indy shop could do the job too.

Since you are barely out of the 4 year, 50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, I wouldn't be surprised if Lexus covered the repairs or, at a minimum, they might offer you a significant discount to the cost of the repairs.

If Lexus does offer a discount, I would approach the management of the dealership to see if, as a good-will gesture, they would cover a portion of the remaining cost. With partial coverage from Lexus and with a contribution from the dealership, your out-of-pocket cost for the repair could be relatively minimal. Also, if the dealer tells you that Lexus rejected the request for warranty coverage, I think I would make a request directly to Lexus myself.

Status Update: Lexus did a partial coverage for the repair. The Master Cylinder P/N 47050-33100 and ABS Control Unit 47070-33020 were replaced. My total cost of the repair including tax was $2835.98 from the original estimate of $5300. I had their loaner for a total of 10 days while my dealer worked with Lexus to work out the coverage.

Not sure how much labor is involved here but the part is about $1600 retail and about $1200 online. Hard to imagine it would cost $5000 to replace. More reason to not trust a dealer.

I'm glad you were able to get a discount. Worst come worst an Indy shop would have been able to replace this likely well below $2000. Suddenly the repair doesn't as scary.

The $5300 estimate seems very high to me as well. When checking on myLparts if found the 2 parts to retail for $2408 and $1627 for a total of $4035 for parts. Also on the work order were 4 containers of brake fluid. I found on other posts the flat rate is around 3 hours for the repair. I think the original estimate was over stated. What Lexus agreed to was assuming $2000 of the repair leaving me with the remaining balance. There was no fee for the 10 days I used the loaner and since it was written as a warranty there is no pricing for parts or labor on the invoice. Just a line stating a deductible of $2675.45 plus tax.
