RX450h Mileage Thread

I suspect there is some variability from gas station to gas station as to when the pump clicks off. We make a frequent trip to visit family about 225 miles away. I refuel before we head back home - always at the same gas station. Usually, the calculated MPG is less than the onboard display. Then, on our return, I always refuel at our local Costco. The actual MPG is always much higher than the onboard display. Sometimes as much as 4 MPG. So, I'm guessing that gas station away from home has pumps that put a "fuller" amount of fuel in the tank before clicking off than our local Costco.

Let's look at data instead. Out of my 155 fill ups, 102 of them reported more MPG than the pump (66%). On average, the RX is reporting 0.36 MPG higher than the pump. So while there may be variability by gas station, both the quantity and significance of the data show the MPG display is higher than actual.
BTW, my best guess is that the "distance to empty" estimate is actually when you have approximately two gallons of gas left in the tank.

2020 RX450h fill up at 1,839 miles 5/26/21. Traveled 408 miles, all city, short trips mostly 14 miles each way, warm weather 70 to 90 degrees F.
31.3 mpg calculated. The RX said 30.1 mpg. Filled up with QuikTrip Premium.
You should always calculate your mpg as the onboard system is not always accurate.

With the warmer weather, the electric motor kicks in much faster after a cold start. My "city" mileage is now much better than during the winter.

Drive in 100+ degrees & see what mpg you get. My mpg goes down significantly, because the A/C fans have to constantly run to maintain temperature.

Why is it necessary to point this out when someone is just trying to post a success story? EVERY CAR is going to have this problem in 100+ degree heat. It's not like the RX melts or handles it any differently.

I just did a 450 mile round trip and the trip home was 105 degrees out! (Rare historic temps for PNW). On the trip home in high temps my mileage dropped about 1.8 mpg down to 30.1mpg which was all highway average speed around 65-70mph.

Had an unusually good commute today - 55 mile round trip at 35.4. And when I checked my last tank the on-board meter was 2 MPG low, so that could even be higher. Love this car.

Just completed an 11-day, 1,616 mile New England vacation: from our home in PA to Acadia National Park to Grafton, VT and back home. Weather was ideal for excellent mileage: light winds and temps from the mid 60s to low 80s throughout. Mostly interstates getting to Acadia (Merritt Parkway in CT and Rte 3 from Brewer, ME to Bar Harbor were the exceptions); many country roads in NH and Vermont; NY Thruway, I-287 and I-78 once we exited Vermont. About 350 miles tooling around Acadia for a week including two 1,500 ft climbs to the summit of Cadillac Mountain.
5 refuels totaling 39.72 gallons (always Top Tier Premium).
That's an average MPG of 40.68.
The 450h performed exceptionally well in Acadia where speed limits are 25-35 MPH across the hilly terrain, and where we made frequent stops. After warmup, the car went into hybrid mode a majority of the time. We got around 42 MPG for those 350 miles.

The 350s I have been given as loaners get less mpg than my 450h, but not significantly less. I also use Top Tier fuel & try to use cruise whenever possible on the Highway.

Come on now, I think you are pulling my leg. The 450h is not rated for anything close to that mpg. Were you driving 25 mph? The hybrid stops being fully engaged around 40 mph, so if you were driving faster than that, you were not in full hybrid mode. I have had my 450h in numerous times to check the rotten mpg & am told I’m actually getting better than most people, but I’ve NEVER cracked 30 mpg in any kind of driving. My average is mid to high mid 20s, but if it’s windy, it’s low 20s.
