Default Lexus RX450h mpg while towing the 3500lb. Limit or close to it?

Does anyone know the 2016 Lexus RX450h mpg while towing the 3500lb. Limit or close to it?
I've heard the weight and bad aerodynamic s cuts the mpg down to like 13mpg.

I assume that figure is average, not conservatie driving style which is more than likely what applies to me. I see people on this thread saying they get around the same? Is there a difference between the Hybrid in fuel economy or not? Also worth mentioning, I am in Ontario Canada and it get pretty cold here for at least 25% of the year.
For what it's worth...

I have a 2021 450H and I consider myself a conservative driver. I keep the car in ECO and don't jump out of the starting blocks at stop signs or lights. I also drive about an equal mix of highway and city. The car has been at 7.8 L/100KM after a reset several months ago. Last week my heavy footed son borrowed the car and put 750 miles on it in three days. The majority was highway driving. When the car was returned it was at 7.9 L/100KM. It's a low mileage car so I use 91 octane since I'm not filling it a lot. I told him he could use87 octane. Neither my son or I noticed any difference related to the fuel.

2022 RX450H.

Sep 2022, Trip from Bay area to Washington State (3,051 miles). Average 31.01 MPG.
Apr 2023, Trip from Bay area to New Mexico (4,239 miles). Average 31.61 MPG.
Jan 2024, Trip from Bay area to Las Vegas (1,094 miles). Average 25.50 MPG. Why?
The highway drivings in all trips are very similar (65 - 70 MPH, most times Costco gas 91).

Not sure how you are calculating the MPG. The best way is to fill the tank and record the mileage. Do the same at the next fillup. I wait until I am between 1/4 and empty. I wait for the 1st click and then get one more click off. Record the gallons and divide the miles driven by the gallons used and record the mpg. There is a good app called fuelly, https://www.fuelly.com, that tracks your mpg.

Thank you jollick! I calculated the MPG exactly the same as you described. I had each fillup MPG and the whole trip MPG.

I am not familiar with the terrain out west but, was the trip with the lower mileage very hilly or going over mountains? Otherwise as long as your driving style was the same, I do not have an answer.

Just finished my 1st full tank with my 21 RX450h.

Miles: 361.8
Car mpg: 26.4
Actual mpg: 25.9
Avg speed: 12 mph
Mode: Eco Pro
Gas: Regular

All driven 100% in NYC, I'm a real estate broker so my driving conditions are some of the worst for fuel economy, multiple short trips and lots of circling around trying to find parking lol. My Macan GTS averaged 12-14 mpg in the same conditions. Feels good to save on gas and in great comfort!

Default 2021 RX450HL with almost of 3 years tracking

I have used Fuelly app to assist for fueling consumption tracking for the the past 3 years. I am in the Midwest, so the mileage got a big hit during the winter due to remote start as well as waiting at the carpool to pick up the kids. The screenshot at the right was from our 1 year tracking of our minivan for comparison purposes.

Thanks for this interesting look at your mileage. It makes me think that I may need to start using the Fuelly app. I do check every tank, but it would be interesting to see it charted out like this. The other thing I find interesting is just how bad your mileage is on the 450h. I just recorded my worst tank ever (to the best of my recollection) and it was a little over 26. Too many short 1 mile trips between gym, grocery store and home, often on snowy roads. From my best estimate, I would estimate an average closer to 29. When it isn’t so cold, I often get 30 or even 31 mpg. My best tank was a bit over 35, but that only happened once when it was nearly new and I haven’t been able to repeat it . Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Yes, the free version of Fuelly app is more convenient for to keep tracking the mileage for fun. Overall, the sitting idle in winter for 10-15mn to pick up the kids from school really hit the mileage hard. I included some couple fill up between summer and winter to see the difference especially we had very cold temperatures for the last 2 winter. Anyway, RX hybrid is good car to drive compared to Sienna Hybrid.

Default 2021 RX450h poor fuel economy

About 4-5 months ago, I bought our first ever Lexus. A fully loaded 450h F-Sport Handling V6 AWD.

The one thing that is really bothering us is how less than rated fuel economy we are getting.

Technically this car needs to go 31 miles in town and 28 miles on highways giving us a combined fuel economy of about 29 mpg. We drive almost exclusively in and around town and I’m observing 22-23 mpg. We tried the super premium fuel and premium fuel, but the fuel economy simply doesn’t improve. We drive on the ECO settings and don’t blast the air conditioning nor do we drive with a heavy foot.

Did we make a mistake buying this car thinking it would net us 29-30 mpg? 22-23 mpg can be obtained on performance SAVs, which this 450h is far from.

Service center says this is normal.

I have escalated this to Lexus but haven’t heard anything back.

I am coming to this forum to see what others are experiencing for 2020-2022 RX450h cars and perhaps see if anyone has anything helpful to offer?

Many thanks in advance.
