Our 2017 Rx450h has about 4,200 miles now. The mileage is not improving at all. When my wife drove it, she got about 22-23 mpg in city. When I drove it, it got 25 mpg in city but 29-30 mpq. in the freeway. She must have stepped on the gas every minute or so.

It all depends on how you drive it. I have always got around 29 on the highway and 30-32 in city driving. Like any car, your mileage depends on your foot.

The length of your daily drive also makes a huge difference. I live 3 miles from my office; I get terrible mileage because the car finishes its warming up routine only a minute or two before I get to the office.

My wife, on the other hand, typically makes 20 minute drives around town and her mileage is much, much better than mine (her average is 28 and mine is 22). When I take a day off of work and take the kid drop-off duty, I also get 28mpg.

My best mileage was 33.5mpg in a 100 mile drive to the jersey shore sitting in stop and go traffic for four hours. Hybrids do great in traffic! And thank god for radar cruise control- I only touched the gas or the brake a handful of times for that entire four hour trip.

I have found that cold weather can also effect mileage to some extent. Yes we are having cold in Jacksonville with our first freeze expected in 24 hours. The motor now runs occasionally at a light instead of being off and I can watch the occasional tenth of a mile knocked off my mileage just to keep the engine warm to provide heat for the passengers. The good news is the RX engine seems to produce heat very quickly compared to the LX.

there was a cold weather package that included a rapid heater, seems to come standard up here. not sure if that does a thing for the 450, could never get and answer from anyone,
so you're saying i won't know my milage till like april or so ?? lol
i can tell you cold milage till then.

Is that a block heater for overnight? Being in MN, it must be cold there for sure. I visit Wildrose WI every winter for some snow machine fun, love the snow but it can also be a pain.

Not sure if its a block heater, just said rapid heater. Has an electric heated windshield also.
MN can get cold. I hibernate, try to get to the Caribbean for scuba, and wait till spring. I have 2 motorcycles and a jet ski. Enjoy the warm for sure.

Not sure how everyone gets such good mileage. I'm here in the silicon valley of California. Mixed stop & go and freeway. I always use premium gas and I always leave the car in "eco" mode. My average ticks back and forward between 26.4mpg, 26.5mpg and 26.6mpg. My dad drives a 2017 Highlander Hybrid Platinum, also only uses premium gas but does much more time on the freeway. His average is consistently in the 27.2-27.8 range. I'm surprised the highlander gets better mileage considering its less aerodynamic and heavier.

One way to settle this is switch the cars for a month with your dad and see. 80% of MPG depend on commute and the rest is on driver.

For my commute on Rx350 I was getting 16MPG with Rx450 I am getting 24 for same commute. I live in Orange county and last weekend went to San Diego and a few days later went to LA with commute change my MPG went up to 29.

These are my numbers for 2017 calendar year:
Roadtrip 26.93MPG
Commute 24.27MPG
Combined 24.97MPG

Using the 2017 average this is 6.35MPG better than my 2010 RX350. Overall this is saving $315.19 per 10k miles, making my breakeven point at 84,710 miles using premium gas and 2017 numbers. Overall MPG is 6.87 better making the breakeven at 82.5k miles.

This is purely for analysis. I did not buy the hybrid to save money. The benefits of hybrid are many.

I upgraded from 2015 Rx350 to 2017 Rh450h my bill for 6 months went up by $120 (I thought it was $150). When I switched cars for remaining 2.5 months I had to pay extra $57.

Had my 2017 450h F-Sport since October. I'm in Hawaii and getting 31-34mpg tanks per fill up. 2500 miles on the odo. I've found that mixed highway/city driving gets the best mpg, while if I commute within the city I do not get the advertised 32mpg, probably closer to 28-30mpg. However it is strange because my highway trips are also around 28-30 mpg. I think what brings my mpg up is that I am charging up the battery while on the freeway, then staying in EV mode most of the time in the city (most areas are 25/30mph speed limits)
