RX450h: 3rd vs. 4th
I used to own a 2010 RX450h AWD and now looking for another one for my wife. I know the gas engine is updated but what about the hybrid components? Gas mileage seems to be the same but the car is slightly bigger/longer and may be heavier. Is it still the same battery?
For those who have owned BOTH generations can you please let me the Pros and Cons (beside the price increase)?
Thank you.

Unfortunately we don't have an in-depth comparison yet. What I can offer is something I put together when I considered a different vehicle. I wasn't sure I wanted to go with a bigger RX. It's not complete or extensive and for the 450h F-Sport. But hopefully it will help you.
t think it's worth taking a look at the '16. The 450h is more powerful even in eco mode. I can't use the heavier gas pedal to moderate speed, LOL! Surprisingly this is with a nominal increase in HPs. The 4RXh also stays in EV mode much more than my '10. Mileage has noticeably increased as a result. My trips to the gas station went from two to three weeks, filling up nearly the same amount. Gas tank size didn't change. I know that's not the main reason we go hybrid but it's worth mentioning. The options are also pretty extensive now. A few are standard on the 450h with the slightly higher price tag. But I have to say, this was the smallest price increase between gens for me. Cons are few and minor. I'm not able to lift the wiper blades easily when I do a wash. It has to be put in the 'service' position. Lots of new spots to dry with the blower. I miss my 6-CD changer. ML is not the same. We have a thread talking about that in the non-hybrid 4RX forum. Overall though I have zero regrets.
Good luck.

I have had a 2010, 2013 and now 2016 450h, all AWD’s. First a few comparison specs between my 2010 450h AWD, which you are familiar with, and my 2016 450h AWD.
Length…………..2010 = 187.8 inches…….2016=192.5 inches
Wheel base…….2010 = 107.9 inches…….2016=109.8 inches
Turning circle…..2010 = 38.8 inches……..2016= 38.8 inches
Front leg room…2010 = 43.1 inches……..2016= 44.1 inches
Rear leg room….2010= 37.1 inches……..2016= 38.0 inches
Curb weight…….2010= 4652 pounds……2016= 4740 pounds
MPG…………….2010= 30/28/29……….. 2016= 30/28/30
Horsepower…….2010= 295………………2016= 308
The curb weight is more, even with some added aluminum sections for 2016. Could be to the little bit larger size, and maybe also more of the options are now standard on the 450h AWD. Extra 1 MPG combined, even with the added weight and 13 more horsepower.
Price on 2016 450h AWD is very reasonable considering all the improvements, plus many of the options since 2010 are now standard such as Premium package, Heated and ventilated front seats, Intuitive parking assist, Blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert, Power moonroof, and Navigation package. Although recommend spending the $430 extra for the 12.3 inch rather than 8 inch screen= So much more you can do with all the split screen combinations.
Lots of changes between the 2010 and 2016, some of which were done with the 2013 refresh such as LED daytime running lights, transmission from ECVT to ECVT-i with sport mode added, HD radio, and no charge for folding mirrors with the premium package or having to pay for 12 speakers as the 2010 did to name a few. As for the 2016, the same tried and true excellent engine and hybrid drive except for some tweaks, but the 2016 has numerous changes and improvements and to many to list. No negatives for me worth complaining about, but a few of the pros besides the head turning looks are:
No charge for AWD due to the AWD performance credit.
Improved suspension, along with more insulation for a noticeable quieter and smoother ride.
Very much improved and refined interior with more features compared to the previous nice but so so plain interior.
Easier for me to achieve the MPG estimates than both my 2010 and 2013 even though I’m just at 6 months of break in period.
Multi-Information display and the latest Navigation are superior to previous. Way more functions and features such as individual tire pressure readings on the multi screen, current speed limit on the screens, various warnings, more menu selections etc. Must read manual consistently to enjoy the full benefits.
Rear camera guidelines.
Roof rails are flush, rather than sticking up. Looks better and easier to wash.
Electronic parking brake.
Lexus Enform including the remote control and vehicle status phone app.
As for options, besides the extra $430 for the 12.3 inch navigation the Lexus safety system plus is excellent, and an inexpensive option for all you get. Also prefer 20 inch wheels as most do.
Need to see in person to check out every feature, as well as test drive to really appreciate. I’m one of the few who prefer Matador Red Mica, glad they brought this color back as we had it on our 2010, but was not available for our 2013. The color blends in nicely with the dark floating roof piece, dark wheel well trims and our 20% tinted windows for living here in the Tucson area. Some very nice color combinations available for personal preference.

Thank you, Kitlz and Go3Ds for your detailed explanation. We will go with the "normal" AWD model since she likes the Pearl White (not avail on the F Sport). Inventory is extremely low for my local dealer (0 in stock) to even do a test drive. We will keep the GX (gas guzzler) so the 450h is the front runner instead of the 350. Our options are "simple" but might have to special order it..
My required options:
White exterior with brown or red interior
12.3" navi
Lexus Safety Plus + Triple LED
Panoramic view monitor with RCTA
20" wheels
Touch free open/close hatch

Maybe you can have the dealer reserve a 2017 with the options you're looking for or close to it (meaning more). Your requirement list isn't large so you might have better luck that way. Special order is always an option too like you said. BTW a few people have said Lexus Safety System + will be standard for 2017. That will definitely help if it's true. Good luck.

I think Lexus misjudged on how popular the 2016 RX450h was going to be among Lexus owners. If you drive a 2016 RX450 vs the 350 you can tell the difference, I own a 2015 RX450h and I have been wanting a loaded Red 2016 but their are non to be had here in the Southeast. I will wait and see what kind of deal I can get on a 2017. And another thing, if you are going to design a vehicle to be more sportier looking give it some bright colors instead of just white or black.

This is a good comparison thread. I was looking at a preowned low mileage 2014/5 RX450h under 40k km but were hard to find in Canada and they are high valued. So I ended up with a new 2016 RX450h. Basically two different RX450h with similar qualities. Styling and road feel are completely different. With the current factory incentives on this new model, the financial factors are good.
I would try try to find a dealer stock and close a deal unless you are very particular with your only options.

Went to test drive the 350 F-Sport with Nebula Gray/Red and it drives GREAT. My older son LOVED the interior....However, ALL F-Sports come with Black headliner and it is a no no for my wife....
The Sales consultant is VERY knowledgeable about the products he sells and answered everything I asked wonderfully. This dealer is one of the 11 with No-Haggle price. The F-Sport is drove today is $55,xxx sale price BUT it has no Triple LEDs nor Panoramic view monitor.

Too bad because the 450h F-Sport is pretty awesome. Even my mother loved how the seats hugged her. Get the pano roof and you won't mind the black headliner as much Fingers crossed you can find what you want.

I have kinfolks who would not fit into the F-Sports seat, so that is a non-starter for me. Them seats were made for fashion models or people who are at their proper weight. Hard to find them people in the land of fried foods.

LOL! Thanks for the morning laugh and honesty.

We have No Problems fitting in it...my wife barely breaks 120 and I have never broke the 170. A co-worker made fun of me once saying that the last time he broke 150 lbs is when he was in 6th grade...and I trust him because he is about 6'5" and 280 now....
