well, 34 MPG may not be overwhelmingly good, but its still double the efficiency of 15-17 MPG that the ES350 would get (I was getting 14-15 on my 2005 ES330). To me, it is not worth granny-ing it to get over 40MPG. I just drive as I usually do in normal mode and average 35 MPG and am happy with it. I fill my gas tank half as often as I did with my past non hybrid ES...
14-15 MPG is what I used to average in my 2005 ES330. I forget the advertised numbers and consumer reports numbers of that year, but I think I was getting 14-15 due to majority city driving, and perhaps slightly more aggressive driving and also, when I was on the freeway, it was very stop and start driving. On a day with very bad traffic and only city driving, it could be as low as 12 MPG.
My error was in forgetting that the 6th ES350 is more fuel efficient. My bad. Consumer reports list a "real world" fuel economy for the ES350 as 17 MPG city, 35 highway, and 25 overall. That seems more consistent with what you guys are saying.
ES350 will vary on a particular person's freeway vs city mix. With 25 MPH overall if consumer reports is correct. I guess conservative drivers with more freeway can get over 30. So then you are correct, it is closer to the hybrid, and certainly not a double - difference between hybrid and ES350 as I had said.
Consumer reports says the hybrid is 28 city, 44 highway with 36 MPG overall. 36 MPG is spot on with what I am getting with my 65% city, 35% highway driving.
I would say that the city is bit better than 28 and highway a bit worse than 44, but that may be my driving style and I'm close enough to what Consumer reports were getting.
