My Lexus RX400H started warning "Water Temp" in the Dash and i noticed the engine temperature almost reaching max. Immediately pulled over and noticed smoke coming out of hood.
Once the hood was open, i noticed pink fluid splashed in the front(driver side) of the radiator and also spilled on the front bumper. Did some looking around and noticed coolant reservoir (white plastic can behind the radiator in driver side) was empty. Fortunately, it was a gas station i pulled into. Got anti-freeze coolant and filled up the reservoir. Let the vehicle cool down a bit and started engine again. Within a minute the engine temperature was reaching max and smoke started coming out of the hood again.
Few questions:
1. When i googled around, there is a mention of radiator cap that needs to be opened and filled with coolant apart from the coolant reservoir. Is this necessary?
2. Coming to the possible root cause of issue, here is what i found Googling.
3. To diagnose and fix the issue
Which one would you recommend? Any other options? I live in NJ near Ramsey.

- Low or no coolant in the radiator
- Radiator leak
- Radiator hose leak
3. To diagnose and fix the issue
- Take it to a radiator shop. Low cost option i guess.
- Take it to Lexus dealership. Expensive option i guess.
- DIY. I don't have the means(tools, garage) to do it, though i am interested.
