Default 2008 400rx h battery warranty

My 2008 Hybrid battery is dead, and I've being quoted 6400 for new ( and used is an option.) The car is just under 10 years old, with 102,000. I'm reading in multiple places ( Consumer Reports, California EPA ) that there are certain state that have laws covering this hybrid battery up to 150,000. HELP ! The dealer says no, but why am I reading differently ? Thanks

Mine died a few years ago and at that time the Dealer had to get Lexus to ship one in from Texas. They said there were only 2 batteries anywhere, one in Texas and one in Canada. Mine was under warranty and they said it was about 6 grand for the new replacement had I been paying. If I had to buy a replacement i would be hunting used salvage yards to find a battery as it has to be a lot less expensive. I don't know how long the company would offer some warranty on that battery.

All my dash lights went on at a stop light, engine ran, no lack of power but the lights were on. Contacted the dealer and they offered to tow it in, or I could attempt to drive it in. I drove it 40 miles to them, it had no sign of anything wrong except no cruise control and the lights being on. I never shut it off till we got inside the dealership. It did start and move into the actual shop for inspection.

On my car the fuel pump went. Now they say the battery won't charge up and car won't start.

back to your warranty question.
http://drivers.lexus.com/t3Portal/do...S-08RX400h.pdf
page 28 says PA is included in the CA emission warranty.
page 31 lists out the hybrid components included..

I can't find where it tell you the mileage.. i only see the 8yr/100k time.. but I've seen 10yr(15yr?)/150k miles somewhere.. I always "knew" my 2006 400h is covered til 150k..

From what I understand the CARB warranty is 10/150 in CARB states & Pennsylvania is one of them. The dealer should tell you why your vehicle doesn't qualify if they're denying it.

EDIT: Haven't found a good source to cite but did run across a forum post claiming that CT, RI & PA did not adopt the 10/150 warranty.

That is very interesting information, wonder why only a few states get the additional mileage or time warranty?

I just got off phone with CA EPA..... said absolutely hybrid battery is covered up to 150,000. Said they would take the case for me, but bc I live in PA I need to do this myself. But gave very helpful information.

By the way there are companies that rebuilt the hybrid battery, for much cheaper. I know there is one in the Sacramento area. A real good site to get this on is the Prius forum sites.

Here's one of those companies sell refurbed batteries. I haven't used them but from my research they're one of the more reputable ones.

Some more info here too:

CARB warranty is for a vehicle that was originally licensed in CARB state or, ownership was transferred to another owner in CARB state.
But there is caveat to it. 10/150 is for PZEV vehicles and that is where you want to start. As from what I heard, PZEV designation is not for all Toyota hybrids and word was, it was removed from some, so they lost 10/150 warranty.

HYBRID VEHICLE SYSTEM Hybrid System Warranty coverage is for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first, and covers the following components: hybrid control module, hybrid battery control module, hybrid battery and inverter with converter. See your Lexus dealer for complete details on the Lexus Powertrain Warranty.

So there is no mentioning of additional warranty option.

Yet, Toyota site still says:

What hybrid warranty coverage do I have on my Toyota?

Hybrid-Related Component Coverage
Hybrid-related components, including the HV battery, battery control module, hybrid control module and inverter with converter, are covered for 8 years/100,000 miles. The HV battery may have longer coverage under the Emissions Coverage. Refer to your Owner’s Warranty Information booklet for details.
Coverages vary under Federal and California regulations. Refer to your Warranty and Maintenance Guide booklet for details.

So in my opinion, it boils down to PZEV yes/no designation for a particular vehicle.
