Default New owner 2011 RX450, won't start

Just purchased a certified 2011 RX 450 H with 55,000 miles. Drove the car home on Friday and went out on Saturday afternoon and the car was dead. Couldn’t start it. Will call Lexus on Tuesday a.m. for a start and they jump and then drive to the dealership for 10:30 AM appointment.

Probably the 12 volt car battery will need replacing. I would call around. At least call AAA to get a quote and AAA come to you. A few months ago I used AAA to replace my battery on my 2013 LX570.... I remembered it was around $125.

Lexusrus, thanks for the information. Is the 12 volt the battery in the back of the car? This is first time I've ever owned a Lexus, let alone a hybrid. Been a Subaru owner for 35 years. This car is "Certified" meaning that it carries 100% warranty bumper to bumper, for next 2 years and then I purchase an extended warranty for another two years. Don't drive much, except around town, being retired, but hope to get some long trips in with this car. I'm somewhat afraid of this car, not knowing if I shut everything off when I shut it down on Friday. Somewhere I read that if I hit the brake the car goes into ACC meaning the car isn't completely off. Guess I have a lot to learn. Have looked at the manual on line and signed up with Lexus.com.

Dont forget that you get 24/7 roadside assistance with the purchase.

I have a 2013 RXh; and I forget to push the Off button from time to time - and I’ve run the 12 V battery down while loading/unloading the car; and during extended cleaning (there are a zillion courtesy lights).

I have also found that my battery can’t seem to last for three weeks of parking.

I’m on the car’s third 12V battery in 70K miles - however the first one had a hard life in the one-year sit on the dealer’s Florida lot before I bought it (I’m thinking that the Florida purchasers didn’t see the need for an AWD when there were two versions available at that time).

Lastly, if the battery is correct for the vehicle, the charge rate is under 5 amps - so try to avoid ‘cooking’ it.

Nate, not to hijack the thread, but you have draw somewhere. My 07 TCH Panasonic battery, OEM deep cycle, made in 2005, is still working as gate opener power supply. Yes, closing on 13 years. I had BASSLINK2000 powered amp installed in that car. I NEVER had any issues with that 12V, long periods of no use included. Somethging's not right with your electric system. Deep cycle batteries that are, to my understanding, 12V OEM ones on Toyota hybrids, are designed for deep discharge. Just saying.

Revtom, on my Highlander hybrid battery is in the rear. Left hand side bump in the floor. But you do not jump from there. You jump from Positive bus in the main fuse box under the hood. There should be large copper bus for it and negative is any good known under the hood negative - engine bolt or similar. They may actually even have a clearly marked "ear" for that.
12V is not charged from the engine. It is charged from hybrid battery. If that RX was sitting for a WHILE IN DEALER LOT, WITHOUT BEING DRIVEN MUCH, 12v DROPPED TO LOW CHARGE. Sorry, damn caps button, always gets in the way.
You can charge 12V with charger but make sure you have deep cycle compatible charger. DC batteries charge different from conventional batteries.
As 12V is just a backup battery for computers and some other electronics, if you have to disconnect it, do so with small 12V battery connected to cables as back up. Alligator clips.
I know how to get into diagnostic menu on Toyota hybrids. There you can always check on 12V state of charge. Anything below 11.7 is considered LOW for a hybrid. You need INFO button to get there. How it's done on fancy joystick Lexus I am not sure but it's a very useful feature to look into.
OEM replacement for the trunk location should be deep cycle battery and that is not $122. They are more expensive. From years at toyotanation I have seen all kinds of issues resulting from mishandling 12V battery, so be nice to it.
