Default Bad coil really confuses hybrid system

Last week we were getting some bad hesitation while accelerating. This only happened while gently accelerating. Aggressive acceleration and highway driving were fine. When hesitating, the info screen showed the engine flipping back and forth between ICE and electric with every stumble. It would even hesitate with the ICE charging the battery while in park.

My first thought was a bad inverter or transmission. Once I got my ebay Techstream working, I was disappointed to not find any codes. But digging around I found a misfire report in Techstream. All misfires are logged for the past 10 trips. Once I saw this, I could easily see cyl 5 was the issue. Ignore the other cyl misfires in the picture. Those were caused by me playing around and turning off individual fuel injectors. All is good as new now with a new coil.

Great info, how many miles on your RX? Mine has 224 k and so far haven't noticed any plug issues.

I notice that car does freak out when there are engine problem. Awesome that you found the solution to your issue . Did you have to drive around with the techstream plugged in or it uploaded after you plug it in.

I notice that the coil pack tens to fail after moving them..ie from spark plug change.

We are right at 160k miles. Plugs were changed at 80k and coils have not been touched since. Techstream reads the historical data from the car. You don't need to drive around to log with Techstream.

thanks
