My "New" 2010 LS600hL!
#17
Thanks to all for the kind words of encouragement on my new LS600hL. I do have a few issues to decide on/sort out:
1. When I got my LS600, I had the dealer swap out my tires and rims from my LS460L (I had just put on new Pirelli P7s, and the rims were in really nice shape). I didn't think through the inevitable TPMS issue this would cause, though, and now have a TPMS error to sort out. I think Discount Tire (where I bought the Pirellis) can reprogram for my new car (at least they say they can). Is this "safe," or should I have the dealer do this?
2. I had just bought a new Key Card for my LS460L and had it programmed at the Lexus dealership ($215 for the card, $67 for the programming). I understand that the card can't easily be reprogrammed, so I let it go with the LS460L. The dealer I bought the LS600 from gave me $300 back to buy a new Key Card (part of the deal), so I'm waiting for the new one to arrive so I can take it to Lexus for programming.
3. The LS600 had quite a bit of dirt in the creases of the driver's seat on the leading edge (where you slide in behind the wheel). The dealership sent the car to an interior specialist to have this remedied, and it now looks like new. But... The fix was to "re-dye" this portion of the seat to match. I think this basically means a part of the seat was "repainted." The color match is perfect, and the seat now looks like new, but it is quite a bit rougher where the re-dying took place. Almost seems like it needs to be sanded with some very fine grit sandpaper to make it nice and smooth like the rest of the seat. Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
4. I chose to not have the selling dealer do the exterior waxing/clay-barring to remove some very light swirls I can see in the clear coat. I wasn't sure how good a job they would do. They gave me $200 back to have a detailer of my choice do this work. Lexus of Omaha offers the full exterior wax package for $199. They did a pretty nice job of getting my LS460L paint looking like new. Should I let them do my new LS600, or should I take the car to a shop dedicated to this work (which would actually be a bit cheaper)? I'll need to take the car to Lexus for the Key Card programming anyway, so they could do the wax work at the same time... Somewhat tempting...
5. I still need to see about having the front bumper repaired or replaced. There's a small dent (1 inch x 2 inches) in the plastic bumper cover that will annoy me forever if not repaired. The selling dealer gave me $1200 back to have this work done. My local trusted body shop has estimated $1170 to replace and re-spray the front bumper cover, so I'll probably go that route.
6. I'll be taking the car to my trusted audio shop tomorrow to have the Prestigious Society Nav bypass module installed (pulled it out of my LS460L). I like being able to work the Nav and have movies playing on the front screen when I'm driving (for my passengers, of course ;-)
7. One question for others who have the Rear Seat Massaging option... When I was demoing the car to my son last night, I had him sit in the "Executive Seat" and I did the full reclining ottoman demo. I also turned on the Shiatsu Massage for the "full effect." This worked great, and he really got a kick out of the whole setup. But after I turned off the massage (I thought), the whole back seat began vibrating. I sounded kind of annoying and wasn't really all that pleasant. When I opened the other back door, it stopped immediately. Is this a feature or a malfunction? I've heard that the rear seats have a "vibrating" function, but I'm not sure how (or why) to turn it on/off. Anyone with experience in this subject?
Thanks again to this forum for the awesome advice!

Not bad... My 2006 SC430 has a custom plate that says "Lexus SC" (which isn't all that original, but I kind of like it). I like "Lexus 600" best, but it may be too long... I'll look into it. Thanks!

Congrats on your second round with a 600hL. It definitely has "the presence". I had a couple GS450h in the past, but never brave enough to pull a trigger on a 600h.
I would wait for the dealer to program your new Key Card to also program the TPMS (maybe free or at a reduced price?).
I wouldn't replace a bumper for a small dent. I would just have the shop repairs and respray.

Congrats on this beautiful acquisition! Awesome color and great features! No more peeking on CarGurus, correct?? Are you planning to get an extended warranty to cover the air suspension and hybrid battery?
How about UNICORN for your vanity plate
BTW, can you post the pages from your manual describing the sensors for the LKA and APCS in your car? I have a feeling you also have nighttime IR vision. Can you verify? There should be a button next to the Trip Odometer button or one on the opposite side.
Congrats again, and wishing you many miles and years of driving pleasure!

Nice plate ideas! I like Unicorn the best, but it's already taken (there's an online way to check availability for specialty plates here in NE).
LEX 600 isn't available (thought that one would be available).
I'm a photographer, so I'm tempted to go with RIX PIX and call it a business write-off... That one is available...
Keep the ideas coming!

Here's a photo of the dent in my front bumper plastic cover. It's a slight scratch and a noticeable (though fairly small) dent. I could probably live with it, but it would be kind of nice to have a brand new, clean front bumper anyway. You can see lots of bug spots and smallish rock chips on the current bumper, partially due to the fact that the car hasn't yet been fully cleaned up. The front of the hood and the front fenders have a nice 3M clear bra that was installed when the car was new, so not much paint problems in those areas.
The dealer dropped the price by $1200 to account for the bumper replacement, so I'll probably just go ahead and make the car flawless since it's new to me (and, in theory at least, I do plan to keep it for several years--IF I can stop browsing CarGurus when I'm bored ;-)
I've scheduled the LS600 for a full exterior detail package at Lexus of Omaha for this Friday. They will Clay Bar, wet sand (if necessary to get rid of scratches), wax, etc. Should come out great! Interior is already pretty much flawless, though I'll be doing some leather cleaning and conditioning on my own.

Congrats again for a great find and buy. There's a huge advantage in being a previous owner and you certainly know what to look for and more.
This 'hunter green' color was all the rage at the NYC19 show (on new Audis). It looks better than the dealer pics.
Enjoy it for as long as you can!

When you get a chance, please follow up on my questions about the stereo cameras, LKA, and night vision. Thanks!
Here's my dent.
