Edit: I just spent the last hour going over this cars service history and I can honestly say I've never seen a car with a more comprehensive history. It appears to have had three owners and every one of them took the car in religiously every five thousand miles for oil change/service. And every scheduled major service was done also.
Wow, I can’t believe that a Lexus dealer is willing to sell this car with the airbag issue. Certainly explains the no warranty. I’d RUN away from this car!
If you’re buying from a dealer, you should get a 3 month 3k mile warranty, otherwise, why by from a dealer? One of the common issues with these cars is control arms. These are very expensive parts from Lexus, Fortunately the upper arms (the most common to fail) are available for the LS600HL from Mevotech. If you can get the 3 month warranty, I’d buy it.
Good luck getting any kind of warranty from a dealership/used car dealer once the car is out of warranty unless you pay a bunch extra for it.
If they skipped doing a $5300 repair then I would start by knocking $5300 off your offer. You want to get this car as low as you possibly can and then buy a extended warranty that will cover the battery, hybrid components, control arms, air suspension, etc. This car could turn out to be a money pit if you are not careful. Personally I would steer clear of the hybrid LS, too many really expensive potential issues.
I was very seriously considering an LS 600h L for the past 2 weeks, but ultimately decided against it for the reasons put forth by UDel after extensive research. The car just has so many potentially pricey systems that it is too risky for my blood (and bank account) even with a good vehicle service contract. As other threads have discussed, CNA offers a fine (and in plain English) contract at reasonable cost. However, it is an open question whether they or anyone else would really come through if confronted with a $5000 repair bill for one lousy part.
I would just plan on no accidents if that is possible.

Agreed, keep looking. Look for no major accident and a recent air shock/hybrid battery replacement to lower your risk on those items. Without that, then the price must allow you to bank for that when needed. They are out there. Good Luck.
Yeah, for all air systems, recent strut replacements are something to be desired as they are quite pricey and wear out with age and mileage. A careful look at the official Lexus service history is a particular must for the 600h's imo. Good luck on your continued search.
Decided to move on from the 600 and got a 10 460 with 101k. Had to take my emotions out of it. I had been looking for a 600 all summer so it wasn't easy. Conventional wisdom prevailed. Proud of my purchase. The color is one of favorite colors on a vehicle especially a Lexus. Thanks to everyone on here for the insight and advice. The very reason I joined this board.
