New 2013 GS 450H Owner

The mute button is the mode button under the steering wheel volume control. Just hold it in and the radio goes on mute. To Unmute the radio just tap the up or down volume button. If the radio is in mute mode when the car is turned off , it defaults to normal volume when restarted.

So I was asked this question by friend and I did not know how to quite answer. She wanted to know why I went with this 450H instead of the normal 350. Now I bought my CPO, so it is not like much of a choice, but I wanted something that got better gas mileage than my Saturn Vue V6, but was not a Camry or Honda hybrid (even though they get better mileage). I have not had a RWD car since my 1976 Buick Regal (had from 86 to 92). I actually do not notice a big difference in the RWD yet, or maybe I do because there is no torque steer, I don't know. So since most of you have had yours longer, and either bought new, or only a couple of years old, why the 450H? Was it purely better mileage, or because no one else had them, so you wanted to be different?
PS - road trip this Holiday weekend of probably 700 miles roundtrip. Should have a good feel for the comfort and road manners after this.

My personal driver was how the 450h is quieter and smoother ride than the 350. The extra weight is normally a downside but in a cruiser that gives a more steady ride.
I also wanted a hybrid for the fuel savings while still retaining the power without having to resort to a diesel.
As for the RWD, I knew it wouldn't be a problem for me since the Lexus traction control is extremely good and because I know to switch to snow tires. I also like having no torque steer and no slippage when starting on an upward slope in the rain.

So it has been a while since I have written here gents. I still have yet to see another 450h on the road here in Orlando. None for sale remotely close by either, so I am with the only unicorn. Unfortunately, I am helping my Dad with his 2005 Buick LeSabre HVAC leak problem. What a night and day difference in driving. I know, two totally different cars, but just totally different. He does have a HUD for the MPH though. It makes me appreciate the 450h that much more. I know I have the power to just step on the gas and vroooom, it goes. With the Buick, when you step off the gas, the car keeps coasting with only friction slowing it down. I have to press the brakes much sooner and harder. I could go on and on, but sometimes you don't know what you have, until you drive something else. Do you all still enjoy your Hybrid?

After 5 1/2 years and almost 40K miles I can not think of another car I would rather have. It runs just as good as the day I drove it off the showroom floor. I think I saw one other so yours may be the closest to me.

It's been nearly 5 years of ownership for me and I agree with Tom450, there is honestly no other car that I would rather own. The 4th gen GS450h hit all of the bullet points for me.
Closest competitor that I was considering going with was a used Model S, but Tesla doesn't have the premium/luxury feeling that the Lexus has.
I'll have literally zero trouble with my car *knock on bamboo* I still receive compliments from anyone that hasn't sat in my car before. I only wish my daily commute was longer and involved more highway driving (like when I originally bought the car), but I've gotten a 29+ average over the life of the car, so I'm satisfied.
I think that I've only seen one other 4th gen GS450h in Texas since I've owned my car. Love driving something unique!

Thanks for your comments. Good to know I am not the only one that really likes this car. Like I tried to say two months ago, I wanted something different, but not full electric like a Tesla. This one just fell in my lap at the Lexus dealer within walking distance of work. I just love the engine shutting off at stop lights. Not that I am a green freak, but it just means I am not wasting gas.

So here is a question. I noticed that when I am exiting the car, I usually lock it by pushing the manual lock button switch on the door arm rest. Since my key is usually in my pocket, I figured that is the easiest way to lock all the doors. Or does this automatically lock 30 seconds after I exit and the key is out of range? But that is not my question, though an answer would be nice. My question is, once I use the lock switch and shut the front door, I swear one second later I hear some sort of "sound" coming from the trunk area (where the 12v battery is located). It is like a locking of something sound, or a knocking, like a single knock of some sort of switch activating, or deactivating. Like a lever is being shut. It almost sounds like the trunk is locking, though I never heard of a trunk locking or unlocking. It is either open or shut. If it was a hatchback, I could see it locking. Ok, to sum it up, a single knocking sound from rear of car when I exit and shut the front door. What could it be? Thanks all.

It's not the fuel cap? It locks.

Just so you know, on the outside door handle there's a slight indent on top. If you touch it it'll unlock just like how if you touch inside of the handle to unlock.
As for automatic lock, I don't think it does?
