Planning to take my old LS600hL that has a mileage around 120,000km (74,500 miles) to a round road trip from Toronto, the one here in Canada, to Los Angeles. My vehicle is maintained by Lexus dealer since the first day of purchase and last time I checked everything were fine. Just wondering is Lexus hybrid though enough for this kind of travel? Or I should take my Nissan Murano instead ; )
Sounds like a fun drive, and one that would be very enjoyable in a LS600h. With either car there is some risk of a breakdown; so go with the one that you’ll most enjoy the trip in.
Matt Farah's 1998 LS just hit 999,999 miles on the odometer. With the original engine. 75k is nothing.
I'd take a 10 year old Lexus over a new Murano any day of the week. FWIW I just drove my 1998 SC400 to SF and back (about 750 miles) with no issues. These cars were meant for the open road. That's where they live.
Take the LS. Most likely it will get better mileage than the Murano anyway and save you some $$$ in addition to being more comfortable.
Not giving any advice, but if I had that car or even my LS, i had asked the dealer to check the battery a few months ago and guess what it dsort of died the other day, I had to have it boosted it was throwing all kinds of light on the dash, it went away when I got a new battery. This being Ukraine, you cannot walk into a store and get a battery on saturday night or on a sunday... anyways
I hear there is a Dr Hybrid app or something and with a basic ELM device https://www.flipkart.com/gadget-guru...meteb3zhjvhvac just the first link I found anyways i have that wifi version. I use that with carista too, which is essentially the same thing. I think you can test your battery health.
If I was going on a long trip, when have I changed my engine air filters? when I did i change the oil? Starter battery health, Hybrid battery health, is there an alternator on a hybrid vehicle, coolant levels. brakes good? basically the usual checks, if everything checks out, off I go
have a good trip! *fellow Canadian/Torontonian waves all the way from Lviv*
Hybrid batteries last a long time. I've seen Prius with 150k, 170k on the original hybrid battery. More often than not mileage (not age) is what kills them; the NiMH batteries are supposedly more durable than the Lithium batteries everybody is using now. Mine is original from when the car was made in 2007.
The 12V batteries also last a long time; I just replaced my first one last year. Since they only have to start the hybrid system (and not the engine) the load on them is much much less than a typical 12v battery; however when they wear out they cause all kinds of weird issues (CEL, weird warnings) until they are replaced.
