My 300h hybrid GS stopped in an uphill just some hundred meters from my home this moring on my way to work.
When I parked it the day before the range meter said 2 km (1 mile), so this was a surprise.
I decided to walk home and collect whatever gas was left for the lawn mover and outboard, approx 1/2 gallon, 2.5 litres.
After filling this on the tank it started and I drove to the gas station.
When I filled it up, it took 57.5 litres out of the stated 66 litres capacity.
And I had already filled approx 2.5 litres so the tank had to be at about 6 out of 66 litres when it stopped.
Pictures from google show the tank as as a saddle with two halves, how is this actually working?! How does it pick
up fuel?
My 450h gets 26 per gallon city. that would be 1/26 gallon or 4.92 oz or 145.59 ml of fuel. No wonder it didn't pick up an fuel, especially on a hill split between two sides of the tank. I refuel my car when it gets down to 1/4 tank.
Although possible, i never thought I'd ever hear of someone with a hybrid run out of gas - but I can see how it could happen as you probably spend less time at a gas station then us non-hybrid folks. But I figure that low fuel warning light and range left would be helpful for you to know you were close to empty...
I wanted to add that any variation with incline could potentially affect the sensor's ability to properly confirm the actual level of fuel in the tank.
The car has to warm up before you can drive in all electric mode and would not work from a cold start.
Actually, I did not notice at first that the engine stopped. I just thought to myself that the engine was not possibly hot enough to go
electric at that point. I drove on battery further up to the first crossing and parked without any drama
I did not want to check if the battery could drive me to the gas station, essentially on the top of the hill. I want to keep that battery for a long time!

When I came home the day before, I had a full battery coming off the highway and drove the last 4 minutes/3 km on battery alone because of favourable terrain.
When I parked it said 2 km range left, and as I have checked I had 6 litres fuel (10 % of the tank) left. I am sure that on flat highway driving slowly that could have lasted up to 120 km in theory (I've done 0.49 l/10km drives over some distance)
But the first hill outside our street is quite steep.
I think that the fuel pump shut down at the first indication of air in the fuel as a safety precaution.

150 ml fuel, that is one cup of coffee. With 6 litres left in the tank that should be possible to pick up?
I actually think that the car would have started again after a reboot on a flat surface and driven to the gas station without problems
but I played safe.
