Rust on my 2015 NX300h
Anyone else having this issue?
I bought mine back in Feb. 2016, 2 years later the hatch had to be repainted due to the same rusting spots. Now 4 years later all 4 of my doors are showing the exact same thing. Is this common? The rust spots are small, but are all over the place. I noticed this round of rust while I was hand washing the vehicle on Sunday, the sunlight caught the water droplets just right, and magnified and discolored the water droplets. That’s when I noticed these spots of rust are all over the car!
It seems like the paint is so thin on the metal that it’s rusting from the outside in.
When I purchased the vehicle new, I paid extra to have a paint protector added, it doesn’t seem to have worked!
The previous vehicle I had was a Rav4, had it 11 years, traded it in on this Lexus, and the Rav4 never had any rust on it, same color, silver, same driving conditions in Wisconsin, same washing procedures.

Looks like brake dust or other impurities. Doesn’t look like it even penetrated through the clear.
Clay bar will remove that. Buff/polish and wax usually reduces brake dust build up but otherwise it’s a common thing. I’ve had this on all my cars.

Thanks for the information.
I was able to take the vehicle in on Friday afternoon to get it looked at, the dealer said this was ‘normal’ he then showed me a newer Lexus (2019) with white paint, it had tiny rust spots all over it, he said mine isn’t that bad compared to the others, its common to see road salt doing this to the cars. He also said some colors are better at ‘hiding’ the rust spots than others.
I think the paint (and clear coat) they put on these cars today is so micro thin that there isn’t much of a barrier between the weather elements and the metal. And being that the metal on modern cars is also paper thin, it makes me wonder what it’ll look like in a couple of more years.
All I know is a decade or so before we never had this problem, and back then the paint was much thicker on the metal than what it is today.
When I bought the car, I paid extra for a paint protector application, he said I could file a claim with them, so I’ll have to find my paperwork and see what happens. But it won’t get repainted, the dealer said they would acid wash the car and scrub it with some type of clay compound which he said was very labor intensive.

Probably rail dust from transport on a train.
Little metal bits from the train get embedded in the clear coat and then the bits rust. The car itself usually isn’t rusting.
I had it on a Mitsubishi Lancer and a Highlander. Both were white. Clay bar cleared it up.

Agree this looks like rail dust. Very common. It's not bleeding through the paint, it's attached to the outside of the paint.
Google "Industrial Fallout" for some good info on this subject. It just has to be cleaned off, but read up on the best way to do that.

I have a 2020 NX300h white and I see them on every car wash. I usually rub them off as I see them after the wash to avoid build up more around it.
Got the car in November and most likely will need to wax it when Spring comes (hopefully it will be better).
On my 2007 Civic had that in the past, 2016 NX Silver atomic as well. Some hides it well as other stated.
Brake dusts + road salt mix could cause that (I might not be 100% accurate on this) or maybe industrial fallout, but at the least I buff them out like new on every car wash. Just more works if we want beauty
