Does anyone know if the 2017 NX300h engine ever shut-off? I have a Prius that that the engine will shut-off when not needing the extra power. My Lexus seems to run all the time.

Do you select the Drive Mode "Sport"?

Yes but Sport seems to map for different expectations, tends to stay
running at short term stop lights rather than start when you begin to roll.
Open up the Information/Fuel Economy/Energy screen. Notice the
battery charge level graphic. Ours is usually showing 1/2 or less and
does shut off the IC engine when stopped. Is yours showing only1 - 2 bars?
That reading seems to force the IC engine to keep running. After an extended
drive it should charge up and allow for EV operation.

Armandol - sorry for late contributing to this topic - My car is NX300H 2019 - I did ask the dealer same questions that you raised in this post and am unsure what the dealer said was correct. He said that the electric motor only kicks in when driving less than 40kms per hour (about 25 miles), then the engine would shut off. So driving on local road where it has strict speed limit, then you would save petrol. But my normal commute to work and home, is always with combinations between 80kms and 100kms (50 to 60 miles), and the car runs purely on petrol. So I think it would be a waste of money buying the hybrid car for which only runs on petrol.

Most but not all Toyota/Lexus hybrids perform better in the EPA city cycle
than the Highway portion. OP's 2017 NXh was rated at 33/30/31 which
shows the benefits of the electric assist at lower speeds. On the highway
it is just a very nice (regular not premium fuel consuming) 4 cylinder car.
The 2017 NX200t was rated at 22/28/24. City 50% better, Highway 10%
overall 30%. Buyers should factor in their driving style and needs.
