Radiator, Thermo Replacement - Hybrid Complications
Hello All,
My 2006 400H overheated yesterday while at the beach. The coolant tank was empty. I put some bottled water in the radiator - enough to get me to the gas station, and bought a jug of coolant. The coolant kept my temp down for 4 miles or so, enough to get me back to the beach, then the temperature started rising again. So I had AAA tow it to one of their own service centers. Today AAA tells me the radiator is leaking and will have to be replaced along with the thermostat cap. But they declined to offer to repair being that they are not certified to disassemble the Hybrid electrical technology, and estimated this would cost more than $1800 - mostly labor from someone who is certified. I called another higher end mechanic shop who told me the same thing - won't touch it. Aside from bringing it to a Lexus dealer, who will charge all outdoors, who else can do this job?? I live in New Jersey. Thank you.

You can do it yourself.Plenty of posts on this but make sure to set aside some time for re/re. Check Lexus for price. they would be the best and i would be surprised if they charge more than $900. It all comes down to whether you value your time or money more. Good luck!
