Default Hybrid Health Check

UK dealers offer a dedicated Hybrid Health Check on Toyota and Lexus Hybrids whereby they extend the warranty for 1 year. Here in the US, local Lexus dealers that I have called offer no such checkup. They claim if there is no check engine light there is no fault or problem. They can run a standard diagnostic whereby they plug their computer into the OBD2 to look for codes at the cost of one hour of labor. I don't believe they run any hybrid diagnostics, consider individual cell voltages or initialize the hybrid cooling fans to test. As my car's hybrid warranty expires next week, I am leaning against having any testing done after consulting 3 dealers who basically tell me I am wasting my money if my car runs fine and has no check engine light.

Has anyone had this done in the US?

Thoughts?

Thanks...

Neil

Yeah your wasting your money. There is a 450h in the 3GS forum that ran to 270k+ miles before the owner wrecked it with the original hybrid battery. One of the battery's has a weak cell in the 220-230k mile range, but unless the cell completely dies the battery will function as normal. Being one generation newer I'd expect worry free hybrid battery till at least 250k miles. If I still have the car by then who knows, I might do a battery swap or cell swap diy.

Thanks. I'll probably skip the basic diagnostics.

With all the mods you've done, did you ever connect your car to Techstream? If so what version and what cable?

Thanks...

I don't remember what version I have, been a while since I used Techstream. Yes I've used it several times. The version doesn't really matter, they all all the same, the newer version just adds support for newer vehicles.

It's a scam. They don't do anything other than scanning for codes. If you had codes you would get a warning light and a check hybrid system displayed.

Even Toyota doesn't have an official bulletin for checking 'health' of a hybrid battery. They only have official documentation on how to troubleshoot a hybrid when there are trouble codes displayed.

If you really want to check health of a hybrid system, you have to take the battery out and measure each cell individually with a load.

Thanks.... I'll keep the faith that my hybrid systems will continue to perform for many more years and miles trouble free.
