This morning I took out the hybrid battery fan to clean it. I try to keep my car interior and exterior spotless since new so at 78k miles and 8 years I was expecting minor dirt on the HV battery fan. However, the fan was very dirty to my surprise. I did not have any codes or warnings yet.

I have cleaned in the past the hybrid battery fans on two other hybrids (Prius] I owned and they needed cleaning but they were at 142k and 160k miles. At 78k miles the Lexus HV battery fan was more dirty than normal. I do not have dogs or cats. I think the latest hybrids have a filter but nothing on the 2013.

Anyway, the dealers are charging an outrageous $750 for this hybrid fan cleaning which took me only 2 hours. There are videos online on how to remove the hybrid battery fan and duct for the Camry hybrid which is identical to the ES 300h. The only difference for the Lexus is removing the back seat, airbag connectors and insulation which is somewhat different than the Camry hybrid.

I did some research and found out that the 2013 Lexus ES 300h does not have a HV battery air inlet filter but the 2014 model and later they do use the G92DH-33040 HV battery filter.I checked the hybrid battery fan and it is the same part for 2013 to 2018 and the air inlet duct is the same part for 2013 and 2014, so the design did not change to accommodate the filter impact. I ordered the filter and I will install it.

Lexus recommends the battery intake filter is inspected for dust, lint, debris, etc., every 5,000 miles. The procedures in the bulletin below should be completed every 20,000 miles.

HERE IS HOW TO INSTALL THE TRACTION BATTERY FILTER G92DH-33040 IN 5 MiN.

1. REMOVE REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE. Just grab the plastic trim and lift it straight up and it will unclip from the 2 clips. You can assist with a trim tool or a butter knife.
2. REMOVE REAR SEAT SIDE GARNISH. Actually you just pull it out from the bottom just a few inches so you can fit the filter behind it.
3. INSTALL THE HV BATTERY FILTER. You just fit the elastic band of the filter on the hybrid battery intake rectangle opening.
4. CLIP BACK IN PLACE THE REAR SEAT SIDE GARNISH AND THEN THE REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE.

Also cleaning is easy. No need to take it out. Just vacuum it regularly from the grill.

I bought it from a local Toyota dealer as the part number is identical for Lexus and Toyota. I am sure you can order it online if you search by part number. You can use these sites to order parts. https://parts.toyota.com/ or https://parts.lexus.com/ Just search for part G92DH-33040.

So unnecessarily "complicated" I wonder if there is an aftermarket option that go directly over the vent (clip on or even stick on)

The point is it's not for your average moms & pops
my whining is just an EXTERIOR snap-on filter like what Camry & Prius have would be much simpler

Say did you ever get the tranny fluid changed ? if so where did you have it done ?

Not sure why we are talking about transmission fluid in this thread...

Anyway, I have replaced my ES300h transmission fluid myself at 120k. It is a simple drain and fill procedure with separate drain and fill plugs - and it replaces almost all fluid in one go. The fluid came out fairly clear and just slightly more brown rather than the original pink color. IMHO I could have easily waited till 150k to replace the fluid. eCVT does not need frequent fluid changes.
