2nd gen NX (450h+) has dual pane laminated glass for front windows (AGC Lamisafe)
In case anyone was curious, the NX (450h+) has dual pane laminated glass (AGC Lamisafe) for the front passenger windows. It is also known as acoustic glass. For those unfamiliar, a dual pane glass window consists of two layers of glass bonded together which results in a thicker, quieter, and stronger window than single pane glass. Laminated glass is also effective at blocking harmful UV rays. You cannot tell any difference looking through the glass but if you roll it down you can see the separate layers at the edge and it is thicker.
The rear passenger windows still uses single pane tempered glass (AGC Temperlite).
Lexus and other luxury manufacturers have used dual pane laminated glass on cars for years but typically only for higher tier models and/or certain packages. As far as I know this is the first time the NX line has it. I do not know if all NX trims have them but I can confirm the 450h+ does.

In my current Toyota I have emergency hammer in case I would need to break my front side glass (for example in case my car gets submerged into the water). So when i was reading th manual, I noticed that there was a note that laminated glass cannot be shattered with emergency hammer:

Well Lexus did say they wanted to address concerns from previous NX owners and one was the noisy cabin.
Here’s an article just for you…confirms that it isn’t far fetched to think Lexus decided to use acoustic glass to help with noise. This reviewer describes the noisy engine from the 350h.

“Annoyingly, it’s a rough and noisy four-cylinder, against the character of this otherwise refined car. I like to drive briskly without my passengers noticing. But in the NX the soaring revs and grumbly noise make it obvious every time I flex my toe.”
Acoustic glass can and will help mask this noise.

This whole thread is starting to get too pedestrian and picky about things that are truly insignificant or a simple read the manual answer.
The acoustic glass is going to lessen the noise from the outside, but it will do nothing to lessen internal noise from the engine through the firewall.
Peace and quiet to all NX owners and future owners YMMV,

My NX450h is incredibly quiet and vibration free. There’s an absence of engine noise….with 302 horsepower working for you. Separately, no wind noise, no rattles from any location. Now that the infotainment system was stripped down and re programmed by the dealership….it’s really rather perfect.
