Default 2022 NX 350h Beeping at low speed (solved)

From the day I picked up my new NX350h with luxury package a month ago, we heard a beeping sound at low speeds. If you slowed to a roundabout, turned into our neighborhood, it would make a high pitch (electronic) beep that could be heard inside the car. Eventually we determined it was when the car automatically kicked into electric mode. However it would NOT come on if we pushed the EV button and forced it into electric mode. It was almost like it was warning us about something. We also have the HUD and it warns us about EVERYTHING including stop and yield signs, cross traffic, pedestrians, etc. This didn’t correspond to any of that. It was driving us nuts.

We’re both 60 yrs old and our sales rep was a younger guy. He brought in a tech specialist and a maintenance guy, both older than me. The sales rep and I could hear it, the older guys could not. Their collective theory was that it was the artificial sound Lexus has to put into the hybrid by law to warn pedestrians that a car is coming (since it is so quiet in electric mode). I know all about that from two other hybrids we’ve owned but this was only able to be heard INSIDE the vehicle so of course it wasn’t that. No one could help us so we decided to live with it for a while and research online.

Then, I had a slow leak in my run flat tire (warranty) so I brought it in to the dealer and asked them to look at the beeping sound as well. In a test drive, the younger mechanic could hear it but the older NX expert could not. They said they’d try to figure out what it was. They also told me they had a recall software update to install:

Recall: Safety (Noncompliance) Recall 22LA01 (Interim Notice 22LB01) Multiple Models and Model Years, Vehicle Stability Control System May Not Default to "On" Recall Code: 22LA01 NOT NOW

I picked up the car and they told me they couldn’t find any reason for the beeping. But then, after the related recall software update the beeping is now gone! Everyone at the dealer assumes there was some bug that was corrected with the update. There is a similar slight noise when backing up which makes sense I guess but the annoying <15mph beep is gone. So, if you have the beeping get that software update!

Default Beep or hummmm

Hello:
I just bought the car two days ago, so we need to wait until Monday. I know this sound trivial, but the sound I am hearing is more like humming, like a sonar off/on. GOSH! I hope it is only a software update, but nothing is coming through the computer as an update.

Curious

hmmm ... that's helpful. Just so strange the dealership doesn't know about these things (and literally told me they don't know what I'm talking about/can't hear it). It's driving me crazy. For real.

Since my original post, we do hear the beeping again. We have a lot of roundabouts in our town and with the radio off, that’s when you hear it the most. We’ll mention it again to the dealer when we bring it in for 10K to see if their hearing has improved since the last time…. In the meantime, keep some good music playing!

I still don’t believe it’s created to warn people about an EV approaching since you only hear it INSIDE the vehicle.

When I drive the plug in hybrid below 35 km/hour there is a beeping outside and inside the car. This is required by law as stated in the wikipedia article and will not change in a software update.

Oh no. So sorry to hear that it returned. That's almost worse - lol. I agree about it not being an external thing (I don't even think passengers can hear - or at least my significant other could not so I was thinking mostly just the driver). I have a roundabout right by my house and it definitely kicks in for that. I do turn the music up but I still hear it.
I have heard it above 15 mph but never above 20 mph.

Try Led Zeppelin or AC/DC! :-)
