Why's there a steel brick behind the bumper?

Default Why's there a steel brick behind the bumper?

Can anyone explain why there is a 5 lbs steel bracket to hold the oxygen sensor harness? The rx350 uses a small steel clip, about 1/100th the weight.

I’m guessing you’re referring to the vibration damper on the front subframe in front of the engine. If that’s it, the vibration damper is there to reduce NVH in the vehicle. My guess is they added that because the engine is not always running and the NVH characteristics are different from a regular ICE model. You may notice similar devices on the exhaust and rear subframe as well.

Yes. Had to remove the rusted out heat shield on the cat and this solid rust brick was in the way. Definitely a last minute design idea.
