Default Brand New 2022 RX 450H - knocking noise

My brand new 2022 RX 450H started making knocking noise when depress/release brake pedal at 8000KM. Dealer serviced brake pads but did not solve the problem.

After a week, I sent car to dealer again but they said everything works as it should and the noise is normal for hybrid vehicle and I may never be able to get rid of the noise.

It got really worse at 16000KM and started making seal barking noise. I did my own research before going to dealer and told them to look into brake actuator as the noise is coming from engine compartment not the brake pads or rotor.

Finally, on my third attempt, dealer confirmed that the brake actuator was a defective unit and replaced it under warranty so I didn’t have to pay for the part and labour cost.

If you car is experiencing a similar issue, here is the service bulletin in Canada, L-TCI-5488.

Not normal. I hate that ridiculous cop out answer. Glad you got it resolved! Too bad you had to do their job for them.

So terrible they, Lexus dealers and Lexus / Toyota give customers a run around on this issue once they own the vehicle. Rx hybrids are plagued with brake actuator problems, my new 2022 RX450h had to have the actuator replaced before I closed on it and took delivery. The dealership knew what it was right off and was able to emergency order the part and replace it with no delay to the date and time I was scheduled to take delivery of the new car.

Now after only 23K miles and 18 months old I have a nose in the left front suspension. (Strut noise.) Again a common problem which I hope to not get run around with, if so they will have picked on the wrong person to run around. Lexus / Toyota are good vehicles but never as flawless as the public and Toyota thinks. I have had many random troublesome problems with the vehicles from Toyota, usually minor but I have been stuck a few times by them with off warranty issues and or just not being able to fix the problems. This RX 450h my be the last time I go Toyota as it looks like my problems are mounting. Wait and see.

Was your RX assembled in CA?

No lists but some concern worthy issues just the same.

Brake actuator, suspension noise in the left front and has always had noise when the front brake calipers initially move the pads toward the brake routers when at coasting speeds and applying the brakes.

I have had (4) vehicles in the past from another Japanese manufacturer with never an issue that needed attention under warranty. One of the (4) vehicles did have an alternator failure out of warranty at 107,000 miles and the auto maker covered the towing to a dealer, parts and labor because there was a soft-recall on the issue.
