RX350h Premium MPG First 100 Miles



I knew I could push the MPG above the stated rating as I have with my previous 2021 Venza Hybrid Limited. First 100ish miles in mixed driving up to 75 on “normal” mode with AC running (eco mode) I hit 40mpg. No reving the engine or hitting the pedal to the metal. I’m choosing to break in my engine gently. As I learned with my first Hybrid, driving techniques that are now second nature such as coasting more on hills/before lights and laying off the pedal on the hwy for a few seconds every so often will yield eco/battery charge. I even have a habit of doing this in my husbands GX 460 Blackline but it yields me nothing. Ha,ha.

The next day the temps dropped and MPG went down to 38/39 with a headwind and running the heater/heated seats. This baby is a smooth operator gliding down the hey leaving the chaos outside. For non hybrid drivers there is a very slight difference in braking feel (regenerative breaking) and slight steering vibration on rougher roads. In the Venza it was way, way more pronounced. I don’t even notice the eCVT or engine transitions. It’s very smooth and with an 80 mile daily commute, the Hybrid was the way to go right now and gives me the larger space. I’m so glad I did not opt for the regular RX.

After a few days I’ll test mpg in Eco mode. Next up, I’ll be chrome deleting around windows and mirrors for a sportier Blackline/500h look with the Nebula.

We just test drove a new 2024 RX350h Premium + AWD this morning. The window sticker says 37mpg city, 34mpg hwy and 36mpg combined. The vehicle had 4 miles on the odometer when we test drove it. We drove a total of 22.2 miles in town mostly and a bit of highway. The display showed the RX350h was getting 20.2mpg which totally shocked me because I was expecting at least 30 to 35mpg. Can some of you who have the 350h please enlighten me on this issue? Salesman told us mileage should improve to the 30s range once broken in. I just find it hard to believe there's such a huge difference in gas mileage. Has it been your experience you initially got very poor gas mileage? We really like the RXh especially the ride and everything else but the poor gas mileage really stumped us. Your thoughts please. Thanks.

I have had 5 RX hybrids and they all had increases in mileage after 5000 miles. The dash display can be way off. I track my actual mileage and the display error with each fill. My cunulative mileage after a little over 8000 miles is 34.7 mpg with a combination of driving conditions. The display does not show a consistent error one way or the othe. I have had it range from -17.6% to +21.6%. The problem with getting a good "fill" impacts that error. The long term average is a better indicator.
