The reason there are dozens of computers in your Lexus is to manage things like octane. Adding higher octane fuel only reduces your bank balance.

Default octane/fuel/top tier

Since the 350h can use either 87 or higher fuel, I think it's more important to use a top tier gasoline (costco is prob the least expensive one) see link below.

The Shell Canada Lawsuit was a class action suit filed against Shell Canada Limited on July 18, 2003, on behalf of customers who purchased "Bronze" (regular-grade) gasoline products, to which Shell Canada added an "additive", between March 1, 2001 and April 15, 2002. This additive allegedly caused damage to the fuel supply system of many cars, most commonly of Acura, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, General Motors, Hyundai and Volvo brands. While Shell Canada estimated that between 100,000 and 200,000 customers bought "Bronze" products during that period, it is unknown how many total vehicles were affected. Top tier gas.

I read on a dealers website that the 2022 rx350 can use a minimum of 87. Anyone know if that's the case for the 2023 rx350 as well? I'd rather not spend the extra money on more expensive fuel if I don't have to. Thanks in advance!
I'm still on my first tank of fuel (regular) provided by the dealer for our new RX350h, my next tank I'm going with premium to see if there is less engine noise or any noticeable performance difference and will revisit this post once I have a change to drive with the premium fuel.

I have used 87 octane in our 2015 RX450h and currently 2017 which both premium is required. Experimenting with the other two levels, I have noticed zero difference in gas mileage or performance. I have used 87 in cars that have required premium for over a million miles and have not had one problem.
I always revert back to two MIT graduates that are car mechanics who had a syndicated radio show called Car Talk for 35 years.
http://www.cartalk.com/content/premi...egular-0#myth4

From the USA Today:
The only modern engines that should really need premium are those with superchargers, which force-feed fuel into the cylinders. "You're driving along and just tramp the gas and the knock sensor cannot sense the knock fast enough in some cases," because the supercharger boosts pressure so fast, says Bob Furey, chemist and fuels specialist at General Motors.

Burning regular when the owner's manual specifies premium won't void the warranty, nor damage the engine, even the most finicky automakers say. "You're giving up perhaps just a little bit of performance that a customer wouldn't really even notice, it's so slight," says Furey._______________

We all love our Lexus's. I call it the placebo effect. If it makes you feel better putting 91 octane in your vehicle than go for it. There is no wrong decision just a difference in $$$$$. Someone posted a couple years ago a response about octane levels that 91 octane he swore made his transmission shift smoother.

Even the CR video that you posted says that if your car requires premium, you should use premium.

Saw that and still don't and never had and never will. It makes no difference in mpg or acceleration. As stated driven over one million miles on regular in vehicles that require premium with of course zero engine problems. The only problem is what to do with my extra $$$$. By all means if it makes you feel better use premium.

Pretty much every car warranty has a line like "The warranty will not cover any failures arising due to misuse or abuse and handling against the instructions of the owner's manual." So if there is detonation damage you could be held liable.

I’ll continue to follow the owner’s manual on my car.

My dealer told me that 87 octane will not cause any harm in my 23 350h. You might lose a couple of hp but not enough where you would feel any difference in performance. Both of my local dealers fill your tank up with 87 octane from the on-site tanks. Todays computer controlled engines will adjust and run just fine.

The hybrid does not have a turbo. Premium is only recommended, not required.

‘Won’t be 3-4 mpg, it will be more like 1-2 mpg.

Since I started using 89 I have seen a marginal increase in mpg. The best I have so far is 34.2 mpg. The car has done 1300 miles so far and the gas mileage has been steadily increasing. I will continue using 89 since it would be better for the engine.

Question Regular gas on 2023 RX hybrids?

Just curious why you are using REGULAR gas on your 2023 RX? I understand all 2023 RXs hybrid and non-hybrid all require premium gas whereas on the 4th generation RXs regular gas can be used on non-hybrids.

The 350h DOES NOT require premium gas.
