Anyway will run 87 and cross my fingers the computer runs a similar tune as the ES300H.
Naah. Not shocking. Most of the posters here seem to be using 87 (regular) gas. Perhaps the RX350h is a bit peppier with higher octane. My guess is that anyone really concerned about pep buys the RX500h or the non-hybrid RX350 turbo. I worry about a lot of stuff. And I’m even shocked about some things. But running my RX350h on 87 octane doesn’t shock or worry me. I
think more about what brand of toothpaste I use.

These discussions are amazing to me. As stated above, the manual clearly states 87 is the minimum. This is not ambiguous at all. Why would the fact that you can run either gas bother you? It gives you choices. Choice is always good.

I think part of it is the “I just spent a lot of money on a Lexus so I can I use the cheapest gas possible even though they recommended higher priced gas?” Either they over extended themselves or they’re mostly frugal.

How do you think I got to afford a Lexus. A lot of “value players” like me buy Lexus.

I don’t think there are too many of us who would go into a store like Costco. See 2 items, a name brand and a Kirkland brand. Kirkland basically identical and cheaper and say “I’ll buy the more expensive one”. I hope not, or my Costco stock May tank.
By the way, I ended up buying an Audi Q5e. Plug in hybrid.

I tried 91 for first 2 weeks and 87 this week and found no difference in mileage. I will keep using 87 from now and onwards

If you want to run lower octane fuel, I'd recommend against the RX350 and suggest the RX350h instead.
+1

My perspective: I run 91 in my 350H. Approximately 30 cents more per gallon at Costco. why? Just habit I guess.

Consider the average driver will spend approximately $2000 more for premium over 10 years. However for a new RX they will loose approximately $20k in depreciation over 3 years.

If you are one to factor in cost trying to save money, look at the big picture. I don’t think $15-$20 per month is worth agonizing over. Especially since we are talking about $60k+ vehicles.

I run what Lexus recommends. Compared to the cost of the vehicle, insurance, and the cost of 87, a bit more for premium is a rounding error.

Due to higher elevation causing lower compression, lower octane can be safely used in naturally aspirated engines at high elevations. This is not the case for turbocharged engines such as with the RX350 and RX500h. Also, if one is driving at high elevations, but intending to return to lower elevations with the same fuel, one needs to put the correct octane in.

Thanks for the quick reply and excellent explanation. I'm glad my instinct was to stick with the higher octane in my Lexus.

One of the selling points for me was that the RX350h only required 87 octane. I only have 800 miles on my RX but have used 87 octane since delivery. I drive in heavy City Rush hour traffic and have posted over 40 MPG every time and when mixing a 2-hour Turnpike trip in the mix the average has dropped to 37 MPG. I listened for pings or knocks and nothing. I plan on adding Techron fuel cleaner every 3000 miles and I am glad to be free from the Premium Gas Curse.
I love my 2024 RX 350h Luxury!

I have been using 87 octane for 18 months and the engine does not knock or ping. I usually get 35-40 MPG unless its extremely cold outside. I have never compared the 91-93 octane to the 87 but even if you got 1-2 MPG higher, the higher price would more than negate the extra miles gained.
