Its shocking this is in the manual, to me this is ambiguous. I'm a little upset that they say "you can run either fuel" as It leaves a lot of room for people to interpret it their own way.
Anyway will run 87 and cross my fingers the computer runs a similar tune as the ES300H.

These discussions are amazing to me. As stated above, the manual clearly states 87 is the minimum. This is not ambiguous at all. Why would the fact that you can run either gas bother you? It gives you choices. Choice is always good.

I think part of it is the “I just spent a lot of money on a Lexus so I can I use the cheapest gas possible even though they recommended higher priced gas?” Either they over extended themselves or they’re mostly frugal.

Like Elvisfan said, choice are good. I prefer not to waste my money.

By the way, I ended up buying an Audi Q5e. Plug in hybrid.

Personally, I would only run 91 or higher in the RX350. 91 isn't just recommended like with the RX350h and RX450h+, it's required. The manual specifically calls out that the engine may be damaged and the warranty may be voided by the use of fuel with an octane of less the 91.
If you want to run lower octane fuel, I'd recommend against the RX350 and suggest the RX350h instead.

My perspective: I run 91 in my 350H. Approximately 30 cents more per gallon at Costco. why? Just habit I guess.

Consider the average driver will spend approximately $2000 more for premium over 10 years. However for a new RX they will loose approximately $20k in depreciation over 3 years.
If you are one to factor in cost trying to save money, look at the big picture. I don’t think $15-$20 per month is worth agonizing over. Especially since we are talking about $60k+ vehicles.

I run what Lexus recommends. Compared to the cost of the vehicle, insurance, and the cost of 87, a bit more for premium is a rounding error.
