RX500h MPG
#61
Enable the mode that shows battery charge on the instrument display. (Press the RH PAGE button on the bottom, then scroll DISP to L or R until you see the barrel-shaped battery and its blue charge indicator)
Does it indicate any retained charge? If not the engine would run all the time.
That's the only thing I can think of.
+++++++++++++
Bring it to the dealer, see if you can test-drive another 500h. Take a picture of THAT car's Trip Summary...and take the exact same route in your 500h. Make sure stuff like AUTO is selected on both trips.

I will check it out later today. I appreciate you folks being so kind here and trying to help. I posted the same concern with MPG on Reddit and was met with some hostility.

I only watch that battery display occasionally, but I've never seen it totally 'full'...1 or 2 segments of the battery icon are 'white' (discharged). But ours def. goes higher than 'Mid'.
If you can note your RX's typical charge state (with pictures) you can more easily make a case if you bring it to the dealer and compare to another RX.
Maybe I'll take a picture of ours today for comparison. You have piqued our curiosity.

average mpg ?
so last night average mpg showed 21.5 when i parked . it’s a rx500h
we are talking the dash display where the speedometer is .
today it showed 14 mpg starting out driving .
the info center on the big screen shows 14 current 21.5 in history and best previous.
isn’t the one in the dash the same as the history one ? it doesn’t restart each day , does it ?
i am confused as to why it dropped over night

If you're talking about the dash display right after you shut the vehicle down ... That MPG gets reset every time you start the vehicle. There is also an MPG readout in the dash, while the vehicle is running, that should mimic the MPG in the infotainment. The one in the infotainment is a history of all your trips.

thanks .
how does it decide what to reset to each time ..,mine seems to reset pretty low in the 12 mpg range
what i think it does is that it seems the ev system is off until the engine warms up .
my green ev light comes on after it warms up and the energy ratio starts to come off zero percent .
the 12 or 13 mpg must be the actual mpg when the engine is warming up and the ev system has not turned on yet

If it says 13mpg when you shut the car off then that is the MPG of the trip you just finished. It will reset the next time you start the car.
You must really drive that car hard to get 13mpg or there is something seriously wrong with your hybrid system.

it is a week old and averaged about 22 .
however at reset the next day i use it the 13 climbs up once the ev system kicks in after warm up .
there is no ev. system active until the engine reaches operating temperature so our first trip to the gym in the morning which is a 10 minute drive shows about 13 …once the ev light comes on at warm up it goes up quickly.
so i would assume without the ev helping out mileage really is in the 13 mpg range with just gas working on local streets
i have a nice long trip coming up on sunday so we will see what my actual trip mileage will be
