Hey all,
New to the club and doing the "forum" thing. I like the posts and everyone seems to be great. From this newbie...happy to be here. If I could please,I wanted to ask a question:
Just put the Powerdyne kit in from PLP into my 03 IS300. Very nice kit. Significant increase with relatively simple installation. The scariest part was clipping all of my ecu wires and hooking up the Greddy emanage and other electronic boxes. Not hard, just freaky..lots of wires. Thank goodness...it all worked out. Probably about 10 hours total work with 2 people doing the install...btw that would be 2 people who are not professional mechanics..average dudes, average smarts.
I will try to post a full blown opinion/review of the process here in a follow up note, but for now, Im curious...
Now that I'm doing the FI thing, Im looking for advice on exhaust.
Currently, Im running only the XERD race-pipe and the HKS CF/TI rear section exhaust. I took off the XERD header because I thought it made the car sound like total crap...too twangy and too much resonating metal vibrating kinds of sounds....not to mention that Eyal has promised O2 sims for all of 2003 and I have yet to hear back from the HUNDREDS of emails I have sent and voice mails I have sent to that guy. Not cool. Seems like quality stuff, but customer service is non existant...but I don't even want to get up on that soap box.
Anyway, should I consider getting a full blown cat back exhaust, and if so... how big of a pipe should I go with before I have to deal with power depletion issues? Im not sure what stock is, but it looks to be around 2.25 in. The XERD racepipe is 2.5 in., and I keep hearing about going to 60+ mm/2.5in. tubing, even up to 70mm/3 in tubing. Is a .25 in. difference that significant? Since I have the FI thing now, I guess it makes sense to have bigger piping (more air in..more air out) but how big should I go? 3 in. seems like a lot and I am afraid of losing power.
And with that...any recommendations on complete systems out there? I like my HKS exhaust..great sound and tone, but if I need to get a full blown cat back, Im willing to do that. Right now on the low end, there's Hayame with a full cat back...on the pseudo high end...there's Invidia that seems good...
But that's why Im here, cuz I have no idea.
Once you get past 600 bucks, I consider that to be the high end. Everything else above that is nice...just out of reach for me.
Thanks for letting me blab. Looking forward to any advice/opinions/smart remarks.
Cheers,
Kemo
