Heat Shield
Hey guys, i just got an IS300 BOMZ Racing cold air intake for $50 that is similar to the AEM or Injen ones. But I was wondering if a heat shield would do much for my performance? What's yall's opinion on the BOMZ intake?
Thanks.
Thanks.

There is technically nothing wrong with the BOMZ unit but you do get what you pay for. The reason why most of the intakes for the IS are over $200 is because they come with higher grade components and are guaranteed not to trigger the CEL. The filter is the most important piece. If you use the included filter too long you will no doubt introduce dirt particles to your engine (especially if you live in a dusty area). It would be worth $50 more to get a good filter. As for the rest of the components, they will probably work although the hose clamps they include aren't too attractive. Also, most of the IS units will include a brace so that it won't sit on top of the anti-lock brake controller but yours will probably sit on it.
The last piece is that you could throw a CEL light if the sensor is too close to the intake manifold. If you do then you'll have to get an AFC to correct it or lose the intake. Good luck.
As for the heat shield I assume you are talking about the one that covers the exhaust header? The one that seperates the intake filter from the engine bay like the SRT and Injen one probably won't fit the BOMZ, it's too short. I think anytime you can reduce heat in the engine bay it's a good thing but i haven't heard of any measurable performance gains from it. Good luck.
