Default painter's blue tape for road trips

Is it common for people to use painter's tape on your car for road trips? do they recommend that you put it on your car?

But why? Doesn't that just make your car look bad? Wouldn't it just be better to get a leather cover or something a little more attractive?

The tape is only a temp item, it's not like you're gonna keep it on forever. I have both a Lexus Front End Mask and the blue painters tape in the trunk. I'm only using the front end mask temporarily til I put the rest of the Xpel on my bumper and hood.

The tape was done when the car was bought and I drove it 500 miles form LA to SJ on it's first day. Just wanted to protect the front from rock chips, bugs. etc on that long first trip.

Xpel was applied to the front end a few days later.

Flipside had a similar long distance situation when he bought his car and he got some rock chips before he could apply the Xpel. That's why I did it.

I heard from JunctionGS that he did the blue tape trick on his show car when he drove long distance to a car event, and after the car had just been painted. A bra won't work on his car since the front end is custom.

As you see this blue tape job has been done by various people under "special" circumstances, not for day to day use.

I usually use a TRAILER to protect my car from chips when going to shows or long trips but the tape is a good idea too!

If anyone wants to do something like this, make sure to use the BLUE painters tape and not regular masking tape or else it won't come off when exposed to the sun.

The tape can be left on for even a couple of days and still come off according to the directions.
