Will it be based on the current IS or will it be a totally new model?

The LF-C is said to be a preview of the styling for the next generation IS.

well, the is300 was first released as 2001, now it's 2004, say the car appear late 2005 as 2006 that's only 5 yrs cycle. if the car appears in 2006 and 2007 model that would be 6 yrs cycle.

maybe lexus will just stay with the current is300 without any facelift until the new style comes out

Hey, just remember, the longer they keep this body, the better the resale.

Well, if they're going to use the V6 instead of the current in-line 6, you can already get that in the Solara V6 convertible....but of course, it doesn't have rear-drive like the IS.

And, don't forget.....one of the reasons the current IS handles and performs as well as it does is the body rigidity of the sedan. A convertible, yes, is fun on a nice day, but they are heavy and tend to have cowl shake and body flexing. The only convertibles that don't tend to cost BIG bucks.....like the Mercedes SL.
