Hey guys - I posted this in the Audio, Video, Security & Electronics forum but no one seems to know to do this in the IS300. I also searched EVERY forum on IS300.net and couldn't find any info!!!
I purchased an Escort 8500 X50 and want to hardwire into my auto dimming mirror on my IS300 (I have the navi in my car so no compass in the mirror) and I was wondering what wires I tap into for this? Anyone done this or have pictures?
Also, can I used a regular phone cord or do I need to purchase Escort's wire?
Thanks in advance guys!

hold on hold on... time out.... it's very easy too do, but i don't have pics so let's see how i should explain
the wiring is more complicated. you can pry open the doom light area, and you will see all the wires there. you have couple of options. if you want, you can take out all the visors and all the trims and then the lining will come off, so you can reach that wiring and tap on it. no problem, that's what i did on my gs4, perfect.
on the is3, if you look, you can easily find the module for the mirror, sunroof, etc... don't touch that module. but on top of that one, you will see another one (a bit bigger. you will wires on that one. now you can find a power wire on that module and that would work perfect too. i used this wire coz' i didn't want to take off the whole lining.
both my gs4 and is3 are hardwired already, should be very easy. if i can do it myself, it must NOT need to be professionally done

gotta remove it from the windshield, and it comes apart. I've taken apart an RX300 one, so this shouldn't be too difficult, bring it by one of these days, we'll play around. I've been wanting to hardwire mine too, so it'll be good to practice on your car, hahahah

Had some free time at the shop, took about 30 minutes. If we end up wiring it in the ceiling, I know which wires to tap into, so it'll be quicker. I pulled the wires out of their connector, stripped some of the sleeve off the wire and soldered on to that, then slipped some heat shrink over it, and clipped the wire back into the connector. everything went really smooth, come check it out.
