Hissing Sound from Dash....
Hey guys...
The other day I got sick of listening to the radio so I turned it off and I heard a hissing sound (almost like air coming out of a tire) from my dash. I can't hear from outside the car but I can from the driver and passenger seats.
It sounds like its coming from somewhere in the gauge cluster but I dunno....anyone ever experience anything like this?? Its tripping me out.......
Thanks in advance

Is the hissing you are hearing kind of faint and fluctuates in tone? I have an idea that the hissing you hear is the faint hissing I hear when I have my AC turned on. Was your AC turned on? When I turn my AC off, the hissing goes away. Hope that was of some help to you...

Yeah, that hissing should be the refrigerant running through the lines. When you drive, turn your radio off and all the windows up, turn the a/c on and off and you will hear that the sound is only apparent with the a/c on.

Its REALLY annoying though and very noticeable....is there a fix for this or do I just get over it and ignore it?? Honestly I've never noticed it until now so I'm wondering if its gotten worse over time...

Unfortunately, that's a characteristic of the IS unless you don't use your A/C.

The hissing may be less noticeable in the RECIRCULATE mode ( when the small yellow light is on the left-hand side of the center rotary **** ) because in that mode, the noise of the air rushing through the vents is louder and tends to cover it up. Also, the IS climate-control system tends to default to the RECIRC mode unless you have the windshield defrost mode on...then it automatically goes to outside air to keep the windows from fogging up.

POP while passing then hissing from dash
I was passing some cars, going about 100mph briefly, heard a "POP" from dash, just above the radio, now Ihave a hissing that gets louder with excelleration? Everything works and the hissing does not stop with A/C on or off or radio on or off.
Any ideas?
Thanks: Bob
