HELP: RoofTop Rubber Defect???
oh man, i went to the gas station today and noticed that my passenger side roof top rubber strip thing was almost completely off the groove.
i am not sure what that thing is called. i hope the picture helps.
as i was popping it back in, i noticed that the END part near the hatch is cracked and lifted up. this means that when i open my hatch, the end piece gets lifted up.
what is going on here? my car is under warranty and not even a year old yet. i cannot believe this. i bet they have to order the piece because i bet they don't have a sportcross rubber thing in stock. man, i am very upset about this.
anyone has experienced this? is this a common thing for the is300 or maybe just the sportcross? the driver side rubber strip seems intact. what's the point of the rubber strips on the roof top anyway?

don't know what they're there for, but my car is over 4 years old, no problems yet.
they might be water channels, so water isn't as likely to run down your doors/drip on your head when you get out.. dunno
at least your car is under warranty...it should get fixed no problem right?

i called my dealership when i was on my way to see them. the closest dealership for me is about 1 hour drive away.
i explained to the lady my problem. she set up an appointment for me for next thursday with a loaner car and suggested that i bring the car in so they can take a look at it to order the right part. i told her i was on my way.
once i got there, the service person came out to check it out. took about 5 minutes. she said she knows what to order. she said that it might take longer than a couple of hours to fix since she has never really seen a problem like it. she also said that they will check the other strip just to be sure next thursday.
i asked if it's okay that i take the loaner back home for a few days when they are fixing it, she said no problem. she also apologized for having me to drive up just for them to look at it. i was very impressed with the service and the professionalism.
although i did not like the sales team at the dealership (long story about a few conflicts), i always liked the service department. btw, it was Lexus of Richmond. i wouldn't buy another vehicle there, but i would certainly recommend getting a vehicle serviced there.
anyway, so i guess problem would be solved by the end of next week. i hope they give me a cool loaner to drive.
thanks all for the replies.
oh yeah, i have about 11,500 miles on the car so far.

big thumbs up there! this is what i call service. yes it's a long drive, yes it's tiring, yes you have to drive back again. but the way they treat you, they apologize to you for the slightest thing, they aware of your needs, their flexibility with the loaners, those are what make them the best imho.
glad they are doing what they need to fix your car hope your car will be back to new soon
